Very nice. I expect good things from this unit.
I've had an Excalibur 9 tray dehydrator for over 15 years. Actually still works fine but the plastic housing is breaking up on the bottom. This Samson unit came today. Very securely boxed in its factory box. It's smaller with only 6 trays but that's what I wanted. This has a digital timer and temp control and that's also what I wanted. The trays from the Excalibur are 15 x 15 inch and do not fit in the dishwasher without taking the top rack out. The Samson has 12 x13 inch trays and they fit nicely in the dishwasher bottom rack. The Samson is WAY quieter than the Excalibur. The racks are sturdy and the mesh is also very hefty and thick. I expect this unit to last me another 15 years. The only thing that can really go wrong is the digital controls. Time will tell but I'm smiling looking at this Samson unit. I use a dehydrator for making jerky. This size can handle 6 pounds at a time. That's plenty. That boils down to 2 pounds of jerky.***UPDATE***Did my first batch of jerky. Came out fantastic! Now, my old unit had 9 15x15 trays and would have only used 6 trays where this one I used all 6 trays and reloaded another 3 trays, but my old unit didn't have a timer and sometimes I wasn't there to shut it off so my batches were too dry. This unit is WAY quieter than my Excalibur and the mesh is finer and non-stick. There are no mesh grid marks on my jerky! I love this Samson unit! I might buy another just to be able to do the same quantity as I did with my Excalibur. You might think that crazy but look at the price of a 9 tray Excalibur! The one thing I would ask the manufacturer to change is to either eliminate or shorten the beeper that comes on after the timer is done. It beeps for 20 seconds which is WAY too long. Two or three beeps would do, especially if it's going off in the middle of the night. Otherwise it's a flawless unit and as a person who has been dehydrating for 40 years I'd tell you to buy this without hesitation!

Truly Is Almost Silent.....very pleased
So far, very impressed. We bought this item mainly because it was advertised as "silent." We had heard the stories and watched YouTube videos of the "best" brand of dehydrators and how LOUD they are. This had to go in our kitchen, and we knew we would not use it if it was loud. We ordered honestly expecting that it would still be rather loud, but this thing truly is pretty much silent. Yes we can hear it, but it is a very, very low hum of the motor. Our fridge is louder. It is delightfully quiet. We have used it pretty much round the clock since we got it. We are dehydrating food for long-term storage and convenience use sealing dehydrated items into canning jars using the wide-mouth sealer attachment on our Food Saver, also a new addition to our kitchen. It seems to dry evenly, but we do rotate the trays on wetter items just because that made sense. Jerky turned out great! It is a pain to clean the inserts when we've had moist foods on them, like the jerky, but that just comes with the territory with an item like this.

Amazing little machine!
I absolutely love this dehydrator. It is very quiet, has ample space and the trays are easy to clean. The unit is compact so it fits almost anywhere. There are two fans that circulate the air, so there is no need to move the trays around for even drying. It also has a timer that allows the flexibility to literally set it and forget it!!! I have dehydrated apples, pears, kale and sweet potatoes among many other things. The guide is not very accurate as far as drying times, however it is simply a guide. I use this machine almost everyday, and it has saved me a lot of money in dried fruits and vegetables. I would definitely buy this dehydrator again.

Stupid thing shut off after 5 seconds and won't come on.
Let me start with how excited I was during the unboxing. This thing looks SWEET! Much nicer than the one I am upgrading from that I have had for the past 4 years.I took out the inner trays and laid everything on my counter and marveled at the clean lines, the craftsmanship, the decadent look of the machine. I was in love!I opened the instructions and took note of the 45 minute break in period, and to clean the trays and front shield. So I plugged my unit in to run it while cleaning the trays. Beeped right away to let me know she had power so I turned it on and went to the sink to start cleaning my trays. Then it started beeping slowly like R2-D2 about to die and then it really did die! Here I am thinking maybe I tripped the circuit so I moved it to a different outlet on a different circuit and again, R2-D2 is dying. Not even on life support. So I called the company and of course got a voice-mail, left my message detailing my frustration and got this unit ready for the box it came in.If I could give it ZERO stars I would. Never even got to use it. Had a batch of jerky marinating and ready to go too. Oh well. Back to my cheap, reliable old unit.Fix your crap Samson!!!

Excellent Dehydrator; Fast & Quiet
After much research I chose this Samson Silent Dehydrator instead of the Excalibur that was rated higher due to the reviews that complain about that brand's loud fan and wiring issues in the fan enclosure. I am very glad I made this choice as this Samson dehydrator works perfectly and is very quiet. We have had it running every day for the past week and have dehydrated apples, pineapple, strawberries and a full load of beef jerky. All of these came out perfectly in less than 10 hours. Some of the jerky took about 12 hours but that's much faster than my old dehydrator. I did not miss the extra wattage or fan power of the Excalibur. The Samson has the fan in the back of the unit instead of on top or bottom so I think that helps it dry things evenly. An excellent appliance so far and I would recommend it highly. Time will tell if the components last (especially the pressure bubble switches) and I will update this review if things change. Right now I am very pleased with this unit.

Awesome dehydrator
I researched long and hard before buying a dehydrator. I have friends with different companies and i have seen and used the basic excalibur that everyone rants and raves about. This machine work so well. Great temperature range, great digital timer range, Super easy to clean, does not way a ton, does not take up a lot of room, the trays are a very good size and comes with screens for all the trays as well. The wattage and power is very good as well. I am so glad i did not buy the excalibur, they are insanely loud and do take up more counter space. The best feature of this and i have not seen this on any other company even high end excal is this is so crazy quiet it is not funny. If you have a new modern fridge that will probably be louder then this dehydrator when it is running. You can have this running in any room and in `10 minutes you will forget it is even on. I highly recommend this Samson Silent Dehydrator to anyone. Great warranty on it as well.

BEST Dehydrator i ever had so far!
This dehydrator is simply amazing!Very close to a commercial one, but made for household use, it is sturdy, solid, comes with all the trays you need and is BPA free certified! Also comes with a non stick pad which can be used to catch meat juice drippings, crumbs or even to make your own fruit leather!DEHYDRATION: Most silent thermostat and fan ever! Using an electronic control panel + a transparent damper frontal door!Fairly big, 18' x 14' x 13' (make sure you have space) from 95F to 158F It can dehydrate absolutely anything including:Any Fruit - Vegetables - Meat (jerky) - Bread (for crumbs) - Herbs - Flowers and even more! You can set the temperature with touch panel, and also set the time needed, a good guide comes with it for this as well as how to handleeach food you want to dehydrate before you put it inside the dehydrator and which trays to use during dehydration. With 400W power, this dehydrator is perfect, because it uses low temperature usually overnight to perfectly dry all your food.4h to 14h for fruit - 4-16h for vegetable - 2-8h for herbs and spices - Meat (jerky) around 4-6 hours

Not silent, just a regular fan noise.
So far I am very happy with the dehydrator. When I first started using it the fan made a slight ticking noise but since running it several hours it has gone away. That did have me concerned since it's supposed to be almost silent. It's not silent, it's just sounds like a regular fan running.I have dried several different types of herbs and very pleased with the outcome. This is my first dehydrator so I can't compare it to anything else.

Failed within 1st year, but replaced by company
I liked this dehydrator initially - it is quiet, and I like the square trays. I also liked that it is digital, however that may be its downfall. Not long (a few months) after purchasing it, I could no longer adjust the time or temperature without it turning off suddenly, and eventually it stopped turning on at all. Since this is obviously a defective product, it should still be covered within the 5 year warranty. Hoping to hear back from the company I purchased this from - I will update this review pending my experience with the company.Initially the company contacted me back right away and were adamant that I pay to ship the unit to a US address (I purchased this in Canada) for repair, rather than replacing it or covering the shipping costs for the repair. Since the shipping cost will be $72, with no guarantee that the same thing might not happen again, I wasn't sure it was worth it. I offered to send it if they paid for shipping, or send them a video of the issue. Luckily the company contacted me again and said they would send me a new unit to replace the defective one. Here's hoping it has a long life!
