ESSENTIAL VIEWING FOR THINKING ADULTS
AMAZON INSTANT VIEWING IS FINE. BUT BUY THE DVD.I AGREE WITH NEARLY EVERTHING IN 5 STAR REVIEWS.Watch for my review AFTER I've viewed the film again.I appreciate greatly Amazon's product review system.REGARDING THE LONELY ONE STAR REVIEW BY JUSTIN:With all respect to Medical Student JUSTIN, let's consider:0. Good to see future doctors studying this area of inquiry.1. Decent? This one word attribute as such helps us little.2. Few good points? Justin's review is short on examples.3. Against specialists? Is specialist "shortage" a problem?Justin cites no studies or statistical data on this "problem."At first blush "too many specialists chasing too many patients"yields well over 3,000,000 Google hits on related REAL problem.4. Not having physicians speak? Justin! Watch any TV show, read any magazine. Our corporate mass media is overloaded with showing doctors pontificating on every conceivable topic - interspersed with "See your doctor if this drug is right for you" ads repeated with mindless abandon. No problem hearing from doctors. Please! $ $ $5. Thank god for investigative journalists and whistle blowers!6. Not treating our bodies terribly is a fine "safe" idea. DUH.7. Some responsibility falls with patient? A "safe" platitude.8. Not impressed but a decent watch? Nothing better cited.Justin offered no suggestions for other DVDs or books.Without getting personal, I wonder if he'll specialize. In no way do I want to invoke ad hominems= = = = = = Deadly Spin: An Insurance Company Insider Speaks Out on How Corporate PR Is Killing Health Care and Deceiving Americans The Truth About the Drug Companies: How They Deceive Us and What to Do About It Escape Fire: Designs for the Future of Health Care in the issue. A Must See to understand US Health Care: engaging and informative
Beyond the political one liners, here is an engaging film from US experts and journalists on the fact of our US health care system which is not improving health or care. It demonstrates the complex issues of health care. It shows how our US system incentivises volume over health care. It shows what could be done, what has been done elsewhere and in innovative centers throughout the US. It shows how all these models can be used to REFORM the organizational and payment system to provide a system that improves health. Within the Accountable Care Act that is so complex and misunderstood are the incentives for these new models. Rather than incentivize hospitals to put heads in beds, they need to ensure appropriate, timely, safe and patient oriented care when needed as part of a team of health care professionals working to improve health. Once the system of care teams are paid and reorganized to improve health, service to patients is the focus, prevention of what is preventable, rapid diagnosis and treatment of disease and seriously improved care for the 20% of people who have one or many chronic illnesses and use 80-90% of our health dollars. These programs can save 30% from administrative and waste reduction and 30% in improving health. We can have a system oriented to patient satisfaction and health at 1/3 to 1/2 the cost. We can do this to put money back in people's pockets and ensure our US economy can become more competitive going forward. This movie is a must see for every patient, every care giver and everyone involved in health care in America.

Excellent commentary on our current system
This film is dead on. Anyone who goes to the doctor, whether they have health insurance or not, should be concerned about health care in the United States. It's purpose is not to improve the general health of American citizens, but to micromanage diseases with expensive drugs or procedures.Since viewing this movie, I've thought about my past experience with medical providers, and I have cause to wonder why I was prescribed medications, why I underwent procedures that I might not have needed, and why so many expensive tests are performed when they weren't necessary. Last week, I had to undergo tests in order to gain access to a specialist. You can't even have a conversation with a specialized doctor unless you pay for the test first! That makes absolutely no sense. One of the subjects in this film has over a dozen stents, which, come to find out, she didn't even need, but now has to live with for the rest of her life. It made me think about my mom, who also had over a dozen stents, and was at her primary care office several times every week since one appointment could only last a maximum of 15 minutes. My mom went through two bouts of breast cancer. The second time, she developed an infection that almost killed her.I want to thank those who participated in making this movie.
