A Classy Fountain Pen
Perfect pen to hand write invitations. The ink dries very fast and the ink color is very bright. The pen itself is very beautiful and the design very contemporary.

I hesitated on buying this pen for a long time thinking that the chisel point nib wasn’t left-hand friendly, but I was wrong! The slightly rounded edge of the nib lets me push the pen across the page at just about any angle with little or no change to the ink flow even on the cheapest paper, and feels similar to the LH nib feedback-wise. As soon as I got it, I loaded it with Noodler’s General of the Armies which is already a wet ink to begin with, but it feels like it will be a fairly wet writer regardless. The 1.5mm nib is HUGE–think sharpie marker-sized lines–but it makes for a very fun writing experience if you’re willing to supersize your handwriting. The slightly longer body of the Joy vs the Safari makes it a little hard to put in my shirt pocket and have it clip to the fabric, but if you’re someone who tends to attach their pen to their notebook, this one is definitely worth getting.

Tell me a story!
I love both the 1.1 and 1.5 italic Lamy pens. They are fun and easy to use and when you have to write that occasional check - yes, I still have two bills I have to pay monthly the old school way - this pen gives you a flourish that makes you feel like a million dollars! I am using them to write my to-do lists and grocery lists and I ordered the Lamy converters so I can use bottled ink. A writer by profession, I had not hand written more than chicken scratch before I started doodling with these pens and now I make lists at the end of the day just so I can cross off the things I did! Great pens and wonderful value for the money.

No surprises here
This pen writes well and looks nice. In fact, it is quite comparable to the Lamy Safari. If I had done my research, I would not have been surprised, but I was slightly disappointed to find that this pen is essentially identical to the Lamy Safari. The nib section and cap, except for a few minor details, are the same. The biggest difference is the elongated body of the joy, but other than that cosmetic detail, there is no difference. The longer shape of the Joy makes it less pocketable than the Safari, but it makes it better suited for a desk, and might be better suited to longer writing sessions. When I carried this pen around in my pocket, the cap came off and the nib was bent. Definitely not a good EDC pen. But for calligraphy at a desk, this pen is perfect.

You don't have to be into calligraphy to want this fountain pen!
I purchased this pen to make my handwriting look more beautiful and it does! The nib glides smoothly across the paper and as a bonus my hand does not tire as easily. I just committed to start journaling so I am sure the ease and beauty of my cursive will help motivate. I got the 1.5 nib for writing cards but the the 1.1 size might work better in my smaller lined journal. Love it. Test out different colored inks.

Buy it now
Don't worry about what it cost. It will be your favorite 0wn forever. All I gotta worry about it buying ink, but in terms of writing, nothing beats this lamy joy with 1m5 nib. Small enough to write on any paper; big enough to get calligraphy stylized letters. Perfect pen all around. Buying any more pens after this one would just be for looks because function wise this pen is perfect.

Nib is actually 1.0 mm, not 1.5mm (I measured it). High quality manufacture, disappointing results.
This pen writes quite well, the barrel fits nicely in the hand. However the "1.5mm" nib is actually 1mm wide (I measured it). Also the Lamy ink is quite thin and washed out, it never looks like a deep black. Also, the pen is advertised as, Ink: Black, Blue, Red, so I assumed it shipped with one ink cartridge of each color. It does not. It comes with one blue cartridge. So, since I wanted black ink, I had to wait and order a box of black ink cartridges. It's a really nice pen, physically, but the inaccurate nob measurement and the poor ink quality makes it a problem. I will probably try recharging the ink cartridge with a better ink and see what happens.
