Large light, making a difference
Overall a great light for those dark and grey winter days in the Pacific Northwest. Note, this is a large light and needs space.Positives: Excellent size, easy to use, solid stand, impactful luminosityPreferences: The base is large and requires a good amount of space. it would be great if the light would not only pivot vertically, but the ability to rotate left and right would improve adaptability for those who have less space. I use this on my desk at my office and because of its size and inability to move left or right, I have to move the entire unit to use it.Overall I gave it five stars for ease of set up and use. Large lighting area, effectiveness and quality.

Best value for the money!
This light meets the standards used in studies of light exposure to treat SAD. I did a lot of research before purchasing and found this light as one of the few out there that has 10,000 lux at 12 in. and is less expensive than some of the others I found. Most lights advertising to treat seasonal depression don't even tell how close you have to be to get the 10,000 lux used in studies and actually require you to be so close (6-8 inches) that it is not likely to be used properly. This light is designed to be a reasonable distance and is big enough to fill my visual space with it's very bright light. The base allows it to sit above you, and shine down (like the sun would do). With this light sitting on a table right in front of me it is about 12 in away. It has adjustable hight and angle which is helpful in getting it to work with your setup. It is not small by any means, but that is a good thing! If it were small it wouldn't cover my view when sitting near it and, I imagine, would be less effective. Although it is large, it is stable and not too heavy to move if you want to get it out of the way.It came with the base and light apart, but only took a couple minutes to put together and had clear instructions.I've been using it for a week now, and so far so good. I do feel like it makes me feel more awake first thing in the morning, and I have had more energy and motivation than I typically do. As for depression, I can't say yet, as I haven't had enough time with it. I purchased in hopes to avoid the winter blues I usually get, so we'll see if it makes a difference by the end of winter.Overall, if you are looking for a true "treatment light" I definitely recommend it.

A must have when sunlight is limited!
I've had mine for 2 years now. It definitely helps with the effects of SAD and the fatigue I go through year round from lack of sunlight. After LongC*"id hit and I never recovered from the effects of it, this light has been a daily added must have. I bought one for my grandson also because he was brought back from a cardiac arrest and isn't able to play sports anymore so he's in front of a computer most days, not outside. He gave me the side eye at first when I set it up but I see him using everyday as well. 😁I highly suggest this Carex lamp over smaller, less expensive ones which aren't as bright and overall effective.

Works, but not the best quality
The lamp does work & actually does seem to help my mood as the days get shorter & darker. It is also one of the few that has enough height to be set up to shine down on you from overhead*** - the way SAD lamp light is meant to be applied. However, it includes a lot of plastic and as other reviews state, may not last very long. An irritation from the get go is that the power cord does not stay securely attached to the screen. Any slight pull or knock will disengage it.*** I place mine on a table that is the same height as the arm of the chair I'm sitting in. If you instead prefer to use it at a desk or a table, you may need to raise the device somehow to have the light come from overhead.

It saved my life and marriage
I have suffered from SAD for about 10 years. Ever since I moved from the East Coast to Wisconsin, I suffer from depression starting at around early October lasting until April-ish. I have tried pretty much everything I could think of, except for prescription psychotropic medication. I've done supplements, herbal supplements, homeopathy, consistent exercise throughout the entire winter, dietary changes (several different types over the years, and even a Philips GoLite Blue. The blue light never worked, no matter how consistent I was. NOTHING worked. I should note that I was never dangerously depressed, but just "blah" from Fall to Spring.I finally caved and saw my GP and discussed my depression. Though he initially wanted to put me on prescription medications, I expressed my concerns and that I'd be willing to try ANYTHING first prior to prescription medications, if he could think of anything. He mentioned to give light therapy a try. I got a prescription for a light box, and contacted my durable medical equipment provider. It didn't work out with insurance and I wasn't able to get it through them, but I did learn of what they were going to give to me with a doctor's order, and I tracked it down on Amazon. I ended up purchasing this privately because I was starting to feel the depression coming on. I literally felt AMAZING within about 3 days. The following week, I really noticed the change when I was driving with the sunroom open on a sunny day, and found that I was actually smiling for no reason, just smiling taking in the beauty of the day and weather! I haven't felt that good in years!Since then, I've used it since 9/21/16, about 2 months. I notice that when I take several days off, I feel my mood shift. I also noticed that it reset my sleep pattern literally within 2 days. I don't need an alarm clock to wake up now. If I use my lamp at 5AM, I literally awaken at 5AM whether I want to or not. This is great for consistency for work, but bad on weekends when I want to sleep in. Also bad for nights I stay up late for something, because I'm up at 5AM regardless! Stay up to 1AM playing video games, I'm up at 5AM! Kinda sucks, but I can't fault the machine for that... It's also large, and you will need a sturdy place to keep it because it's heavy too. But it needs to be big I believe to work effectively. I wish it had less plastic around the base and more metal. It's already heavy, so I could deal with a little more if it were all metal. I also wish it used LEDs instead of old-school florescent lights. But maybe LEDs wouldn't be as effective? My blue light was small and LED (still bright though), but it wasn't effective...I would HIGHLY recommend this for Seasonal Affective Disorder/Major Depression. This literally saved my life and marriage, and I'm finding life up north bearable now, versus dreading it every Fall. Avoid the smaller lamps, and those gimmick blue lights. They do nothing.
