I needed the large 12" capability for a project I was doing and didn't want to drop $300 on a Mitutoyo or Starrett just to use once. To my surprise, for the money, they're really nice calipers with smooth action and good precision and accuracy. Way better than you'd find at HF. Twice the price compared to those, but about a quarter the price of the primo stuff, so still a great value, and you're legitimately getting a good tool here for that money. I find myself using them more than I thought I would so it's great that they turned out to be a quality tool. One complaint I do have is that they don't auto shut off so they will use up batteries quick if you don't pay attention to that. I was hesitant to try anything past my Mitutoyo calipers that I have come to regard as the measuring stick (literally) by which all calipers are judged, and then I saw a pair of these a friend had bought for home shop use (0-6"). After playing with his and then reading some reviews here and elsewhere I decided I'd get a set (0-12") I'd been wanting a set for awhile and I'd just purchased a 1-2" micrometer from I-gauging recently and it has a very nice ergonomic design. I've been using these now for awhile in a production shop environment and I have been very impressed by the feel, use and overall quality. For around $70 I have yet to see anything else as impressive as these calipers. Is there some kind of an internal reset, or should it be replaced.** A: I checked my iGauging Absolute with a .1275in metal blank and it measured 3.24mm correctly. Since the iGauging is similar to the Mitutoyo their instructions say to remove the battery, re-insert it, move the jaws together and hold down Origin for one second and zero point should be reset. Other than that, make sure of the 0/ABS switch is correctly set. If it is still bad, I would return it. **Q: Does it come with a case?** A: Mine did, yes. It came with a simple black plastic case. Nothing special, but it gets the job done and protects the caliper well. **Q: does the fractions model do both fractions and decimals? Or is it just fractions?** A: There are 2 models of the 6 inch caliper. Be sure to get the model that says WITH fractions, and it will have that feature. The model with fractions will read in 3 modes. I use it mostly for reloading ammo and I've been very pleased with it.
