Flexible supply options and easy to use
The supply cable comes with an alligator clip attachment for directly connecting to a battery power source or use the cigarette lighter plug to connect to another vehicle or jump starter box having a round cigarette lighter outlet. I bought this because it provides power directly through the OBDII connector which is universal in all late model cars. Other products on the market provide power to a cigarette lighter outlet in the vehicle. On some cars, those outlets may have relays controlled by energy monitoring modules which might block the backfeed of power through the lighter outlet.

A must have when changing a battery in a new car
Newer cars with computers must have power to them or they will need to be reset over time or taken to a dealer. This plugs into car and keeps 12V to computers when changing the battery. Worked great

Honda vehicle with out the radio code is a problem
I need the ability to keep my presets when the battery is dead or charged.

On a 2006 CR-V; it will save radio tuning presets. But you still need to figure out radio code.
I bought this specifically because I knew my daughter's 2006 Honda CR-V would need a new battery soon. With that in mind, I was hoping to save the radio tuning presets, as well as keep 12V power on the vehicle to avoid having to obtain the 5-digit code needed on the radio to get the radio working again after replacing the battery. The item worked as advertised; the red light stayed illuminated, the radio station tuning presets stayed intact. However, the radio still required the 5-digit code to be keyed in on the preset buttons before the radio would operate. This is a security measure in the event the radio is stolen, so that it can't be used after power is lost. Since we bought the vehicle used, my concern was that obtaining the 5-digit code from the dealership was going to be a hassle. No so much: Went through the button-holding and key-on hand-dance, got the 8-digit code out of the radio, told it to the guy at the dealership on the phone while he was talking me through the process, and he gave me the 5-digit code. Some security. This feature may be unique to Hondas/Acuras.I'm still glad I got the item, but I would have used it differently. With this experience in the rear view mirror, I would not have hooked up the alligator clips to a spare battery and the ODB-II connector to my daughter's car. I would have hooked up the ODB-II connector to the other car in the garage. Then hooked the negative alligator clip to a good ground on my daughter's car. Then hooked the positive aligator clip to the positive battery cable of her car, wrapped in plastic to avoid shorting out, then removed the positive battery cable from her battery, and replaced the battery.I do like that the wiring cable is juuust long enough to reach from one car to another.
