How to SuperSaturate Your Spa with Ozone, and Stop Using Chemicals
This is the second DEL Ozone Eclipse we've purchased. The first worked unexpectedly well, for about 14 months. Here's the story...We have a 19-year-old HotSprings spa, with a newer hard cover that looks a lot like this one: The Cover Guy - Standard Hot Tub Cover. The key attributes of this cover are that it is made of rigid foam, and has a soft vinyl cover. So when the spar cover is down (closed), the vinyl and the flaps and the humidity all work together to create a reasonably good air-tight seal. Now the fun part: On this spa, the circulation pump runs 24/7. This means that ozone is being diffused into the water all day and night. More important, the gaseous ozone bubbles are constantly releasing into the small air pocket between the upper surface of the spa water and the lower surface of the cover. This creates a positive pressure of ozone in that air gap as long as the cover is closed (23+ hours per day). And that positive pressure drives the oxygen and carbon dioxide out of the air gap and eventually out of the water. The spa water becomes supersaturated with ozone. The result? The spa water has not shown any signs of color or odor (except ozone) since we plugged in the first DEL Ozone generator in February 2017. In May 2018, the ozone odor faded, so we immediately ordered a replacement generator. We use no chlorine, bromine or other chemicals. Please note, we are clean people, and do not wear clothes in the spa. Clothes bring detergents and other pollutants into the spa water. Dirty bodies bring worse. Decaying leaves or bugs are the worst of all, so we scoop those out ASAP. I drain the spa and scrub and rinse it twice a year (no soap or chemicals, just a scrubber sponge).WARNING: The supersaturated ozone scenario described above will not work for you if your spa does not run the circulation pump 24/7, or if your cover does not create an airtight seal, or if you leave the cover off the spa for more than an hour per day.It has been a pleasure to stop testing and dosing and shocking the spa. Your mileage may vary.

Tub Time!
This is a great find. Saved $10 off another site and got free next day shipping. Instructions easy to follow. I was replacing an old SunZone unit and only question I had was with the AMP plug which was on the SunZone. I removed the old wires and inserted the white & black in same locations, removed the former green ground wire which is not needed with the new unit. Installed on tub and it is working. Now to see how long this unit lasts. I hate to admit that I didn't know these had to be replaced. The SunZone was the original and 15 years old, so I guess I haven't had ozone for a long time. The only reason I replaced is because it was causing the GFCI to trip. I will see how the water improves with this installed.

Worked for 60 days then died, no warranty replacement. Updated review.
Unit worked well for about 2-3 months, then it died for no reason. No green light, water no longer stays clear. I contacted the seller and they told me I had to return it within 30 days. I explained again what the situation was, thinking maybe they didn't read my email. Again they told me they would not honor the warranty. A frustrating waste of time. Too bad as the unit worked fine for a short period.UPDATE: 3/7/18: Turns out Amazon is not much help with Warranty issues. But they did give me the seller's email and I contacted them directly and they sent a replacement unit 10 days later. Installed it and now all is working again.I will update this review again if the unit fails again.

UPDATE - This is the APG Generation 2 unit - Better ozone production
This is the second time I have purchased this exact model ozonator. Last one seemed to have a very high level of ozone production, much more than previous, different models. This time around, the unit is labeled as a different revision, but it is the same model. I am not sure it is as good as the last one. It seems to produce less ozone that the last one, but it is definitely working.UPDATE (2 weeks after above comment was written): This unit has completely failed. No green light. No electrical continuity through the generator. Tested the spa controller - all good. Proper voltage across terminals. After reading a few negative reviews, I am expecting to have trouble obtaining warranty restitution. Will update after that is determined.UPDATE -2022. In the time since the last update, the manufacturer was very agreeable to sending a replacement. The tech I spoke with was very forthcoming, and as a gesture of good faith, sent me an exact replacement for the APG-U unit which was failing, and ALSO a second unit (MCD-50) which he included as backup. Again, the APU-G unit lasted only 8 months before total failure. I then installed the MCD-50 unit, which also lasted a short time, with noticeable decreasing ozone production over time until nothing at all.Note that there have been several units which look different but contain the same Gen 1 internals. Some units have a large case (MCD-50)which contains either one or two of these ozone production cells. Other units are smaller on the outside (APG-U) but contain a single APG Gen 1 cell. DO NOT BUY ANY PRODUCT CONTAINING A GEN 1 CELL!The new Gen 2 cell is completely different. Though just as small on the outside, the Gen 2 units are completely sealed (potted) and cannot be opened. This is the one you want. After realizing that there really is no competition in the market, I am nonetheless happy to report that DEL Ozone has abandoned the Gen 1 units completely. The new unit has been operating for four weeks, and I am glad to say that the smell of ozone is stronger than it has been the entire time I have owned the tub (20 years - seven or eight ozone generators). I am cautiously optimistic that this is the end of the saga, and that the new units will last the full 15,000 hours they are rated for.UPDATE 5/5/22: KEEP YOUR FILTERS CLEAN!Just an FYI. The smell of ozone had been decreasing recently, and I feared the now 3 month old unit was failing. Turns out my cartridge filter (which feeds the circulation/ozone circuit) had gotten clogged and reduced the flow through the ozone injector. Replacing the filter had an immediate effect of returning the ozone smell to its high level. I now wonder if in the past, insufficient flow through the injector had caused reduced lifespan of previous generators due to a back up of the highly corrosive gas. I will definitely decrease the time between filter services.
