Superman/Batman Omnibus 1

This series was originally released over 10 years ago and with Batman and Superman's first live action big screen appearance together in production it's an absolute no-brainer on DC's part to bring this out again and we can only be glad of that.So what can I say about this book apart from the fact that it is brilliant, the first six issues World's Finest (although it is also known as Public Enemies) sees a giant clump of the plant Krypton on a collision course with earth, current U.S President Lex Luthor puts the blame squarely on Superman who with the help of Batman must not only try to save the earth but also dodge the heroes sent by Luthor to arrest them and the villains after the 1 billion dollar bounty placed on Superman's head.This is followed by a one off story featuring Robin and Superboy who are tasked with offering a job to the Japanese Toyman who features in the previous story.The Last Six issues are called The Supergirl of Krypton, where it turns out the giant asteroid (from the first story in case you weren't paying attention) contained a ship from Krypton housing Superman's cousin Kara Zor-El whose appearance causes nothing but problems for Batman and Superman and her appearance also bring the attention of Darkseid.So why buy this book? you ask well firstly the art is stunning, whether the muscly characters and bright colours of World's Finest or the more stylised work in the Supergirl issues everything is a joy to look at, the stories themselves are also great with the relationship between the two heroes explored in great depth with both being aware of the other ones strengths and weaknesses and also how each other ticks, the way in which even in the middle of a fight they seem to be more worried about the others action then they are their own is quite telling and often quite funny. This book is also really chocked full of action with fights and explosions leaping off the page at you, it also contains an amazing amount of heroes and villains from the DC universe, note down your five favourite DC characters and I can guarantee that one of them will be in here somewhere, just because it is called Batman Superman don't think it is just about them. One note of caution though a lot of references are made to the continuity of the time and storylines of the time that I'd imagine would make no sense out of context (Jim Gordon being retired, Lois and Clark being married, President Luthor, the JSA and JLA co-exsisting, Nightwing leading the Outsiders and so on) and this may be confusing to readers with no background knowledge, so unless you have a perfect memory or fantastic DC knowledge you will almost certainly run into an event or character you don't know although this can be off putting it's easy enough to just let it slide because the stories are that good.Some off you may be aware of the DC animated films based on these stories (Public Enemies and Apokolips) and you may feel you've seen them so you know what will happen, I can tell you that although the basic stories are the same there are major differences from the films so there is still new stuff to find.Overall if you like Superman, Batman, Team ups between the pair or just really high quality comic stories then this book is well worth a look.

A long time ago I watched one of my most favourite DCAU movies Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, and I always wanted to read the comic perception of that story. This volume was pretty amazing to read, despite it had differences to the animated movie I watched but still I really enjoyed reading this. The artwork presented by Ed McGuinness is really amazing for it's cartoonish style just like animated movie. Moreover, Jeph Loeb nails the dynamic relation of Superman and Batman is really good at explaining their differences/views from different angles of the panel.Furthermore, I was even more surprised that this edition had another Superman/Batman story that mainly focuses on Supergirl's arrival to earth and how she copes being a person from different planet and embracing her new life on earth. Even better Darkseid is also involved in this story, which to me is pretty entertaining.

Good condition generally but a hair caught in the binding was a bit off putting. Overall, good value.

Came as was described, nothing to major about the condition of the book. Also arrived before earlier than estimated. Have ordered from this company again and waiting on it to be delivered

This book contains both the Brill stories of Public enemies and the return of Supergirl story as well as the extra Superboy and Robin team up story. On kindle, it hard to at times to see the night battles. The fight with in Public enemies with Metello in the graveyard is almost impossible to see on Kindle. But thankfully, the book gets better from there and the zoom in feature makes for some amazing shots of the artwork. Supergirl story is great also but also suffers from the same problems on Kindle but the Zoom in feature again, creates some great pictures. Both stories are well written and drawn and both stories were so well liked by fans that they were turn into Cartoon movies. I still feel the book is better then the films though. The side story with Superboy and Robin is poor though and feels like the writer is having a off day or just rushing through to get that story out. It does not feel worth reading but collectors will be pleased it's there. All in all, it's a must have for DC fans.

Extremely good. Very fun writing & extremely good characterisation. The dynamic is pretty easily top 1 of all time.

This book is great, a few of the one shots and annuals throughout can be kind of boring, but all in all it is a great book with several amazing stories within. The book and authors within perfectly display what makes Batman and Superman so awesome, it explores just about every aspect of their relationship, and what they think of each other. Another great thing about this book is that it can really fit anywhere in continuity, someone who is brand new to comics can pick this up and enjoy it just as much as a long time fan. It really is awesome, and as a Batman fan it’s awesome to get some amazing Superman stories as well. I would say just about 95% of the stories within are about perfect, there is plenty of action and emotion within, with a surprising amount of humor scattered throughout. There is a large array of characters in this book as well, so don’t think it’s a book with only Batman and Superman. If you can get this book for anywhere under $100 I would say it is a must buy, if I were to be someone who frequently bought books over that price, it would say it is also worth the retail price of $125. Altogether an awesome book, with great stories, characters, and artwork alike. It was so good I decided to write my first ever review about it. I hope this helped anyone 😁.
