Outstanding Clippers Your Dog Will Thank You!
For most of us, human and pooch - clipping your dogs nails doesn't rate high on the scale of fun things to do - for either. Our English Bulldog has huge thick nails that seem to grow into 2x4's over night. With the exception of the Guillotine style clippers which "crush and shred" the nail.I've tried a series of Grinders and other brands of clippers - each with their own drawbacks.Until I discovered Millers Forge clippers a few years ago.My last pair was a medium size with the eye hole design which meant a nail that was to thick wouldn't fit through, but for a couple years they were perfect for our dogs and cat. What's great about this size is that the cutting blades open up to fit any size nail.Fiercely sharp, and just a little pressure the nail is clipped, the job is done quickly and leaves behind a nice smooth tip.No wonder they're the choice of professional groomers and Veterinarians. This is a precision, well balanced tool that does an excellent job.As with any clippers cut just a tiny bit at a time, never over due it. A little touch up every week or two will get those nails to a healthy length and give your beloved pooch healthy paws. The clippers have a nice locking mechanism, do an excellent job and make what often is a stressful experience for dog and human alike as effortless as I suppose it can be.As with any clippers it's also good to have some Styptic powder handy ...just in case.Great Product - Terrific Value.

I bought this one because I had extra cash and it would not be a bad idea for me to have several clippers on hand
I bought the large version for my whippet thinking the size difference wasn't much. I can definitely use the large one on his nails, but it was harder to use due to my small hand size. I bought this one because I had extra cash and it would not be a bad idea for me to have several clippers on hand. I must admit I like the feel of these in my hand better. They will work for my 29 pound whippet just fine and feel much more manageable for me. I would recommend these for anyone with a small to medium sized dog, who also has small hands. I like the closing mechanism on these clippers better too. Handle still has a similar "cheap" feel compared to the large size, but they look like a higher quality item in comparison. The steel blade is sharp and can't complain about it at all. Not the fanciest clippers, but one that are highly praised. Esthetics aside they perform well.

Works well with only minor nail chipping.
First off, I have a 80Lbs german shepherd dog with very large, hard nails. I was a little worried because I could only find these clippers in a medium size, but they're plenty large enough. These are quite sharp and don't require much force to clip the nail (mostly) cleanly. It still splinters/chips the nails slightly every once in a while, but, as I said, my dogs nails are very large and hard. A quick filing of the tip of the nails fixes that problem. My dog also seems less bothered by these clippers than the others I've used. Presumably because they squeeze the nail less.My clippers have a locking mechanism that is different than pictured. It says "new locking clip" on the packaging, so it must be a semi-recent change. The mechanism works quite well. I've been annoyed in the past by locking switches that keep falling back in to place, locking the clippers while still in use. These, however, did not have that problem at all. I've uploaded a couple pictures to show the locking mechanism, and also the size of the clipping head.I would definitely recommend these. Five stars, as I don't think I could find any clippers that would not chip my dogs nails at all.

For Large Nails
This is a good choice for clipping the nails of large dogs. Does the job quickly and better than other style of nail clippers and with less pressure on the nails. As nail clippers go... I have recently taken to grinding the nails down as opposed to clipping. With a good grinder (dremel tool) like this one Dremel 761-03 7,000/14,000 RPM Cordless Pet Nail Grooming Rotary Tool. I can take the time once every week or so to do a little quick grinding on the nails and the dogs are much more relaxed about it. Pretty easy and if you do happen to hit the quick - it cauterizes it right away so there is no bleeding. I do have one dog that is afraid of it, (the noise of the dremel) he also despises having his nails cut with this nail cutter..all in all doesn't want anyone messing with his feet. So I have been trying to work with him to see that the dremmel tool is much easier on him and faster. I hope that him hearing the tool being used on the other dogs, as well as getting treats when I bring it close to him, will let me start grinding his nails rather than clipping them. Meanwhile we hold him and just use this clipper. Works well for getting the job done for him.

Sharper, makes trimming cats nails much easier
I asked my vet what they used, because I was having a hard time trimming my cat's nails. These are by the same maker as theirs, and they are much easier to use. They are sharper, and so don't twist or pull on the claws like the cheap ones I bought from the supermarket did. She still isn't wild about having her nails clipped, but I can do it faster and it doesn't seem to annoy her as much.

any other clippers I've tried have been a waste of money (splitting dog nail
I have only had these a few days so I cannot attest to longevity. That being said, any other clippers I've tried have been a waste of money (splitting dog nail, etc). These clippers are amazing. My dog's nails were too long because other clippers kept splitting her nails and she was acting like it was hurting her. She still tries to get away from nail clipping, but the nails cut rather than split and shatter. She no longer acts like she's in pain. If these wear out or get dull, I'll definitely come back for another set.One difference, mine had a black plastic clip on them that holds them closed when not in use. It isn't pictured or advertised, so may not be on all. Just push the thick side toward the blades to disengage.

Stiff to use and needs quite a lot of force
The media could not be loaded. This came highly recommended on Wirecutter but has only been mediocre to use so far. The first time I used it, it was literally squeaking and needed a lot of force. It's slightly better now but there clipping motion is not very smooth and didn't seem very sharp on my medium sized dog's nails.

Excellent nail clippers!
What can I say? They're Miller's Forge! The spring fell out of my previous pair, and I'd never even consider getting anything else. Im a professional groomer.

Cheap
Very cheaply made. Plastic handles and not very sharp. Crushes the nails instead of cutting.

Two Stars
Not as expected - unfortunately, It doesn't clip as well as cheaper ones we've purchased in the past.
