Great motivating information for me.
I never was a "Gym Rat" in my younger days, and just did not pay too much attention to working out or fitness at all. Now that I am in my 50's, I find myself much more motivated to get healthier and fitter, and am truly addicted to working out regularly. My husband, on the other hand, has always been into fitness, and was always working out since his younger days. When we moved into our house, he built a home gym in our garage, and we work out five to six times a week, and I can now say that I am officially a "Gym Rat." I love it, and I love that we can have the ability to work out anytime of day, and not have to deal with any wait times for equipment, or any judgement from other people. With all of this in our corner, I still have days that I struggle with just simple motivation to get moving, with three three teenagers, three cats, and a puppy to take care of. I am constantly looking for any type of reading material that can help me to get tips for maximizing my benefits, as well as motivation to keep the course. I came across this book for Fitness and Exercise Motivation, and thought it sounded interesting. I looked into it first, because I am a type of person, that if it does not get my attention and interest in the first few pages, than I will more than likely not read it all. This was not the case with this book at all. I got the Kindle version, because I can read it at any time, and even while I am doing my Cardio to help keep me going and motivated for the results I will see, and this helps because Cardio is not my most favorite part of my daily routine. I like that he starts out letting you know who he is, and how he can help you. One of the biggest things that got me interested in his advice, is that he states that he has been everything from skinny and weak, to fat and out of shape, and even a long distant runner and bodybuilder, and now he is a Personal Trainer. I like that, because it shows me that he sees the perspective from each angle of health and fitness, and can truly give sound advice and information regarding fitness. He covers every aspect of getting and staying healthy and motivated, but I like that he starts out by you finding your "Why" and this is a very important thing to know, because it is the reason you even want to be healthy and fit. He even covers how to keep going when it gets tough, and believe me, I know it can get tough. Overall, I really enjoyed this book, and find that it can benefit a lot of people who want to get healthy and fit, but may struggle with motivation.

I didn't relate to most of the author's personal experiences and stories but it is an ok book
An ok book. Sort of boring to me overall though since I didn't relate to most of the author's personal experiences and stories - e.g. training for a bodybuilding contest. Interesting enough though that I am continuing to follow the author and see what he comes up with next.

Stop Ignoring The Mental Elements of Change
In the spirit of full disclosure, based on my previous Amazon reviews, the author invited me to review this book. Given the nature of the book, I willing purchased and read the Kindle version. While Capital One might suggest you not leave home without their credit card in your wallet, I would strongly suggest you not undertake another behavior or lifestyle change without reading this book first. This book could make all the difference between your success and failure with the change process.Congratulations Jim Atkinson on writing an excellent book that everyone thinking about lifestyle or behavior change can benefit from reading. Everyone thinking about making a change and every change agent should read this book! To ignore the mental processes associated with the change process is like asking to fail.Unfortunately, most everyone undertaking change fails to take the mental processes covered in this book into consideration. What is even worse, most change agents ignore these processes as well.Dee Edington (PhD), a leading researcher and leader in the worksite wellness community, has written: "We have been riding the behavior change horse for 40 years with little to show for it.” As I reflect on Dr. Edington’s comment, I believe a large part of our field’s failure in the behavior change arena is due, in large part, to our ignoring the mental elements associated with behavior change. This book was easy to read and held my attention through many engaging stories. The author also candidly spoke of his own struggles and challenges with the mental elements associated with the various change efforts he has undertaken in his own personal life. This book is 100% focused on the mental elements associated with change processes. Don’t buy this book looking for a new workout routine. You will be disappointed. As a reviewer of this book, the best advice I can give regarding this book is for you to not undertake another behavior or lifestyle change without reading this book first.

What a fantastic read!
What a fantastic read! The mental side of any fitness or sporting journey is often over looked and forgotten about, yet it's one of the most important parts of keeping ourselves motivated to keep going.Although this book is aimed primarily at the beginner, I do believe it will benefit any level of sporting ability. I've been training myself for many years and have hit many a tough times where my get up and go has pretty much got up and gone! I so wished this book had been around during these times. James breaks down reasons behind lack of motivation, why it happens and why it's so important to keep going! The stories of his past failures and accomplishments demonstrate where his own desire to push forward has motivated him to keep going and realise his goals and dreams. The chart included in the book is genius! Such a simple way to track our goals and achievements, I definitely think having a visual chart to look at and monitor progress is key to success. Being able to look back and see your journey is often motivating in its self.I would highly, highly recommended this book to anyone out there at any level of fitness. I'm a personal trainer and I'll be getting my clients to read this so they can recognise the signs of lost motivation and how to push through it.

Helpful! The ronseal of motivation
Made me think, Made me question myself and above all made me be honest with myself. Found myself relating James' examples with my own situation. Clear and understandable advice and a very helpful idea for a chart. This book will get the ball rolling!!!

Some good motivational stories and information. However some very outdated nutritional info
I enjoyed reading this and it had some good tips and motivational stories. Unfortunately some outdated nutritional information. like the overemphasised meat and whey as protein sources, rather than healthier forms of protein like lentils, chickpeas, beans, tempeh, tofu, etc. Something motivational would have been to encourage cutting down on processed food, including processed meats, salt, sugar and having 1 or 2 meat-free replacing meat with a healthier form of protein. I was also surprised that beans are classed as a vegetable in this book rather than being classed as a lean source of protein. Even the downloaded 'healthy recipes' do not even hint at having some meat-free meals. The author should read some more up-to-date books on nutrition.
