SmallRig 1/4" to 1/4" Double Head Screw Adapter 2-Pack - 828

Sturdy and appears to be well made. It fit my tripod and cameras perfectly. I'd be careful with over tightening because I accidentally did that, and it was hard to loosen. I think the stability is good, It secured to my tripod easily and I didn't have any issue with it moving around.

I have to apologize to SMALLRIG. Their comment that I may not have purchased from SMALLRIG is correct. After additional investigation I discovered what happened. The first order I places for these 1/4" Male to 1/4" male adapters was from SMALLRIG. I very much liked these. When I reordered two more sets using Amazon's "Buy It Again" button, Amazon took me to a page advertising what appeared to be the same product, but from a different vendor, which was Vinient. I did not notice the change of vendors. I tested the "Buy It Again" button from the original order before writing this and it still has this behavior. It takes you to Vinient instead of SMALLRIG. The 1/4" Male to 1/4" male adapters I received from SMALLRIG were high quality, heavy, stainless steel and well cut threads. The two sets I received from Vinient were not the same. Much poorer quality. In the attached image, the adapter on the left is from SMALLRIG (the first set I ordered). The adapter on the right is from Vinient (the second order) and the one being reviewed. You can see they are not the same. The dimensions of the adapters I received from Vinient do not match those shown in their ad. Threads are poor. It is very unlikely they are stainless steel; they are magnetic (yes, there are magnetic SSs, but seldom used for fasteners). I work with a lot of SS fasteners and as soon as I saw these I knew they were not stainless, wrong color. They appear to be nickel or chrome plated, SS is seldom plated. I knew something was wrong as soon as I saw the adapters were not in SMALLRIG labeled bags. The adapters I received from Vinient are not the ones they advertised and not the same as I received in previous orders. They will work, but a poor substitute. It appears Vinient is advertising a SMALLRIG product and then substituting a cheaper product. Update: June 20, 2016 After writing the review above, I received a refund from Amazon (probably Vinient) for the lower quality adapters I received from Vinient. I still wanted more adapters and ordered three more sets making sure I was purchasing them from SMALLRIG. The adapters I received were the same high quality product I received in my first order. I've reset my rating to 5-star. Just make sure you know who you are actually purchasing from. Stick with SMALLRIG.

So I ordered my wife the NETATMO Rain Gauge for Netatmo Weather Station, so that we can get the rain info at our house. Problem is, this rain gauge is not that heavy, and does not have a stand. I did not want to leave it in the grass, but rather wanted it on my deck railing. Luckily there is a tripod screw hole in the rain gauge...but now I needed a male-male tripod screw. So I found these. It is exactly what I needed - but I only needed one. The 1/4" - 1/4" only comes in a two pack, while the 1/4" to 3/8" comes in a single. So now I have an extra one - hope I'll find a use for it someday. As far as the one I did need goes, it works well. Drilled a small hole in my railing, screwed in this adapter, and then screwed the rain gauge on top of it. Now it sits firmly, won't blow away or get knocked over by a playful squirrel, and still allows the water to drain out. They are a bit pricy, for being essentially a screw, but the quality is high, and it's an uncommon sort of part. If you need one, you need one, and this is a good choice.
