Apollo: Atmospheres And Soundtracks

For All Mankind
I've loved the Apollo album for decades. If you've never listened to Eno, this is the album to begin with. The second disc of this new release matches the original album tonally and is every bit as good. If you loved the original, you'll love "For All Mankind".

My favorite of Eno’s Ambient works
The original music is a blissful experience. I have never owned any of the previous vinyl issues of this album, but have had the CD for many years. The mastering on this double LP version is excellent, and the pressing quality is decent— not the best but definitely not the worst (see my reviews of the 45 rpm issues of all four of Eno’s rock records). The LPs are dynamic and quiet about 80% of the time on my copy, with quite a few ticks and swishy noises throughout, but no dropouts or other gross defects. The bonus album is not the musical equal of the original album (how could it be?), but is a respectable effort and I do enjoy it. Only time will tell, but I find more to like with each listen. The price is a real bargain considering, and the packaging is lovely. If you like the music and want an LP pressing, this is definitely worth the money.

No Digital Download Code
The album is a classic. Sounds great on vinyl. The product description says there is a digital download code, however, and because of this misinformation I'm giving the product two-stars. I contacted the label, Shakedown Records, and they said they couldn't supply me with one. Often Amazon includes an "Auto-Rip" feature where, if you buy a physical copy you can download the album from their digital music service, however, that is not an option in this case either. Once again, beautiful album, incorrect product info.

A classic made affordable
The pressing quality sounds great after a thorough cleaning. There are a couple minor defects to this press that others have encountered (check Discogs), but my pressing hasn't bothered me enough to return for another copy. I will say that this is a much better deal than paying someone 50-80 dollars in the used market for a good original pressing.

3.5 stars... OK but not Eno's best
It's okay but the 11 new tracks in the Expanded Edition released in 2019 add nothing much of significance and in fact are not as strong as the original album from the 1980s. Hence, keep your expectations in check and you'll be alright.

Audible bliss
Great music and sonics. Eno is the godfather of ambient, no doubt. Enjoyed as background music or the full focus of one's attention.5 star music but downgrading the review 1 star because the "jewel case" arrived broken. I hate when that happens.

Outstanding...one of Eno's best perhaps?
While I'm not crazy about the extra new CD/LP the original is superb. I have a lot of Eno's work and I would place this near the top. Just beautiful and very emotive.

Bad pressing, avoid
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. Only reason I didn't give it 1 star was because the packaging was very nice. However unfortunately both records were severely warped to the point that Apollo caused near constant skipping and audible pops, and For All Mankind caused clicking when it reached the peak of the warp. Both records were also very static and required cleaning (they also came in those crappy paper sleeves which look nice but cause 9 million shallow surface scratches after 10 seconds). The video shows the warp on Apollo. The stylus is literally being bounced out of the groove.Unless it is just my copy affected (I have seen others mentioning issues with theirs online), I would avoid this and wait for a second pressing perhaps? Or just avoid altogether.

Eno's Apollo soundtrack revisited and extended
Brian Eno has revisited his 1983 work Apollo to mark the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landings. Eno is, of course, an artist who prefers to look forward constantly innovating and pushing boundaries rather than dwelling on past glories. He has "got the band back together" from the 1983 sessions including brother Roger and long time collaberator Daniel Lanois to augment the themes from the original album (which were later used as the sound track to Al Reinhart's 1989 film For All Mankind). It is a few years since I listened to the original album and it sounds fresh and vivid here and is emotive for me of some of my earliest memories watching the moon landings in amazement as a young child in the headmistress' dining room. Seeing these images now still sends a shiver down my spine, as does Eno's sparse Apollo ambient sounds. It is the second disc of the new recordings that is the main area of attention here. And I am pleased to report that they do not disappoint. These is truly beautiful music. To think that the moon landings happened half a century ago using the same amount of computing power as one single smart phone today is extraordinary. Brian Eno has managed to imagine new sounds that are a fitting testimony to Man's greatest acheivement.

masterpiece not improved upon by new second disc of material
have had the original album since it first came out, but bought it again (as was no doubt intended by the record company!) for the disc of new tracks....which are mixed, particularly the quite middle-of-the-road / easy listening early tracks. The second disc certainly won't get played anything like as much as the first disc will continue to be

Heart of Hearts of Space
Just seen other reviews of the vinyl release of this. I guess I got lucky as both discs zi received are immaculate. The original remastered twangy Americana space music ( term literally coined with this masterpiece) is now supplemented by a brand new complementary and not too obviously evocative 2nd album. All very lovely indeed.Brian Eno is a national treasure like 'Love Island ' and 'Britain's Got Talent '.Not .If those like those you will not appreciate this .

Ordered a fourth copy from local record shop same problem. Four copys from four separate suppliers. I'm out ..
