Saunders Sport All Back Support w/Shorts - Men - White - Large

I am a candidate for L4/L5 fusion. I have worn all the back supports in the world over the past 40-years. I play tennis and when younger played at the top level at my clubs and now play at at the second club level. I could only ever play if my back was strongly supported and with various pain patches on my back, most currently capucin. I have used or tried every support made and they all slipped upward into my ribs and did not work for sports. Years ago I finally began buying from the girdle department items that looked something like this product- high strong back support with the legs of various lengths, whatever was best on the market at the time. The panty-legs kept the panty girdle in place. Ureka. Note that they cost as much as this product! I kept wondering why no one just made a back support with shorts because the need was so obvious. Then I found Saunder’s back support with shorts PLUS the additional wraps, which is by far the greatest support I have ever used because it stays put. I use them strictly for tennis because I need to pull the wraps so tight. I have other supports for other situations and must always wear some type under my clothing. RE MEASURING: Here’s what I learned about what works for me in measuring, which is to not measure the waist but to measure the rib cage below the breast area. This product will be tight!, so if your waist is smaller than the area above it, it will push your skin up and over the top edge and can dig in. The other way, the waist felt just at tight but the area at the rib cage fit appropriately tight. Then when I wrap the straps I can go really really tight and both the fit and support is perfect on my entire torso. FYI, I went from a too tight Women’s Med. to a perfect Men’s Med., and no skin layers roll up and over. I am 5’2” and weigh 122 Ibs. Hope this is helpful. FINALLY, TO SAUNDER’S - Thank you for a great product and PLEASE offer it in Black, which is what tennis players wear, and please make the elastic on the leg looser as it really digs in and is not necessary to be so tight- I had to clip it. To anyone with serious back issues this is the answer, and for those with general back issues this will support you and prevent you from developing more serious issues. It’s so import to prevent and protect your back always.

The back brace is wonderful and really supportive. I play over 80 rounds of golf a year. I have had multiple herniated discs that have healed but my lower back can still flare up. The spandex bottoms are connected to the brace portion - this keeps the brace from riding up. My version came with a fly opening. It is difficult to use the restroom but not impossible. Plus I would not wear underwear with this brace. The brace is great while standing but odd while sitting - remember it is a brace. Here is the downside - it is not easy to take off because of the attached shorts. So you will be wearing this in the 19th hole while drinking a beer unless you want to change clothes. I love it because it allows me to play golf. You are not going to find a better brace.

To be fair, the product is what it is. No offense to the production company. The materials and stitching are quality. The product itself is medically ineffective. Unfortunately, I was advised by a Rhuematologist at Boston Medical Center to use these and I ordered 2 pair only to discover how excruciatingly uncomfortable they are. They are constricting; hot, not sufficiently breathable, and excessively sweat producing - as one might expect. They also made my hip pain excruciating worse by putting pressure on the joint, and are not effective at supporting lumber spondylolisthesis. I have now advanced to diagnosis by both hip and spine surgeons, and advanced physical therapists, who simply shake their heads when I show them these shorts. I wasted money on them and am writing this review so others do not so the same under wrongful advice. Be sure to search hard for proper specialist diagnosis. If you want to try the shorts out, I can send you a pair I never used!

This is a great product. Like other reviews I have read they were correct in stating the thread on the legs should be elastic. The legs bind up and are too tight especially when bending, crouching etc. I had to just remove the thread to make it function. I would prefer any other color but alas no luck. What I really like about the product is that it keeps the support exactly where it needs to be. In addition when you are finished with vigorous activity you can remove the support band without completely undressing. There are still support "bones" in place and they are very comfortable.

I have been using these for 20+ years when playing golf. I have chronic SI joint issues and this product protects me from injury when playing. The sizing is somewhat a problem. I have a 38 waist and have ordered the large size. I find the shorts are tight but wearable. The problem is the belt length in my more recent orders. If wearing the belt low for SI problems I find the belt that comes with the large size too short to use comfortably.

This is the best brace I have ever bought. It stays in place and is very secure. I threw my back out and with this brace was able to lift my newborn again and move around the house and even do some walking to get exercise without being completely debilitated. Its not bulky and fits under a shorts and a t-shirt or even a suit (which allowed me to cut the rug at a wedding). The brace detaches from the shorts with Velcro and I cant state enough what a life saver it is if you have a weak lower back and injure it often.

Needs a larger waist band section. Project is ok but tends to ride up on body

These are good quality and well constructed out of sturdy material. I needed a back brace with shorts for work since the other 3 back braces I tried rode up after a while and didn’t support my lower back as I needed. The shorts/brace combo works very well to help the brace stay in place. The brace itself is like a large, thick elastic with further elastic bands that Velcro in place overtop for extra support. On me (I’m 5’9”) the brace is long enough to go from my lower back/sacrum area all the way to mid back. This is a great feature and it provides support and relief. However, I have to agree with other reviewers that the shorts portion of the product is poorly designed for a so called “sports” brace. The leg openings are too narrow, with a tight thin elastic at the end. They bite into your legs and also roll. I’ve had to cut mine as I simply could not wear them as is. Otherwise they fit fine everywhere else. I believe if you are a more muscular, athletic or curvy build you will have trouble getting these to fit your legs unless you cut them.
