Disappointing
I was rather disappointed with this book. There are only about 40 recipes and, for me, there just wasn't anything really new or exciting. Each recipe comes with a picture of the finished dish which some people may find useful. The book is padded out with lots of photos of e.g. markets, shops, etc which did nothing for me as there wasn't enough narrative to make this one of those travel/food books that I can happily spend an evening leafing through without actually needing to cook. Perhaps I am spoilt (I have more than 350 cookery books) but I didn't feel that the book was either interesting or good value for money. I didn't return it but I haven't used it either. If I want to cook middle eastern food I invariably find myself using one of Claudia Roden's books or Arto der Haroutunian.

cookery book
Well written book. Lots of simple ingredient recipes but with use of different spices and flavours. Good alternative to mainstream food.

Disappointed
I was somewhat disappointed with this book compared to other similar types of cook book. Fewer recipes and none of them inspiring.

Milky rice pudding
I went to UAE past winter and was very interested to find a cook book with a local cuisine without much success. This book was as close as I could get. And it is a wonderful overview of the whole Gulf cuisine. Plenty of good and, more important, doable recipes for anyone who has an access to at least one "orient food" shop nearby. As a person with a sweet tooth, I am somewhat puzzled and, little just little, disappointed why date syrup or honey is not used much more as a sweetener, but hey, as a whole this cookbook w. introduction deserves 5*, especially for teaching me what, actually, WAS that COFFEE we drank so often.

ok but a bit basic
To be honest I expected a few more distinct recipes. Its a nicely presented book but a rather ecletic mix of home cooking -average

Beautiful cookbook
I've been looking for an Arabian Gulf foods cookbook for some time and this beauty is spot on! It's a truly gorgeous book with yummy recipes and colorful photos. As a former expat in the Gulf who misses the wonderful food, I'm so glad to have found this.

A Beautiful Book
Love the pictures and the recipes were delicious. Lentil soup was wonderful and the Jereesh brought back great memories. I will continue to use these recipes.

Solid cook book
Talk about tasty meals fit to support a family! Would've loved to have grown up on this kind of eating. I loved the photography that was included into this book too. Tempted to owning 2 copies instead of one to have on the coffee table. I truly do love this book though, I hope to find more like this.
