Waste of my money!
I am in the military and purchased this to use in the field. It worked for one week and now I am unable to charge my phone. I have tried hard reset, and soft reset to no avail. The flashlight works just fine, but it will not put out a charge after so little use. Very disappointing and frustrated. It really is easy to charge up and one should simply be able to plug your phone in for a charge. I am 2 1/2 weeks past the return date. Expensive flashlight at this point.

Defective!
New update. The replacement cord quit working. The battery seems to be working, it is the cord that failed...... AGAIN! OK, here's the update review. I called the manufacturer and they said that they have seen this problem before. It is a short in their charging cord and they will send me a new cord immediately. Excellent service................ This holds a large amount of energy, but after charging it fully, it ran down to zero in a few days just sitting unused. I discovered the problem. When the cord that comes with the unit is plugged into the sockets on the device at each end, the LEDs never shut off fully. They dim, but stay on, draining the charge. I have a call in to the manufacturer and I will report back after I hear from them.

Zero information. Zero Support. Zero accountability. Goal Zero.
I bought the Goal Zero Venture 30 Power Bank in 2017 along with over $600.00 of other Goal Zero products. I needed solar powered products to take with me to St. John, USVI after hurricane IRMA to secure our Villa after the roof blew off. I used it for my trip and it has had very little, if no use, after the trip. My 16 year old son has started using it and when I charge it only 4 of the 5 lights pulse together to indicate it is charged. The last light (5th light) does not light up at all so it cannot be fully charged. I have contacted support and tried a hard reset, and soft reset to no avail. Goal Zero support has informed me that I am outside of their 1-year warranty and they cannot replace it. I don't need a new one if this issue can be fixed. What is the issue?? It seems that this issue is a defect or a bug that Goal Zero should want to investigate and resolve. The power bank has had very little use and they offered me a 20% discount on a new one... Why would I buy a new one with zero information on why this one is not working correctly? I could have the same problem with the new one. Very disappointed.

iphone 7 & airplane
This is my 2nd Venture 30. This first a passed on to a friend who liked it. The first I could get 3 full charges and about 20-30% on a 4th charge. The 2nd one I have I get 3 full charges and nothing extra. Ive taken it on an airplane and recently and had no problems with security. I had it in a QT size ziplock bag with all my cords and an ipad charger. On a bus I charged my phone and in the hotel I charged my phone and ipad at same time ( while it was plugged into the single charger ). First one I had on a 3day backpack trip and kept my phone powered. I haven't had water exposure yet but Im sure it will happen and im not worried when it does. Small light weight and has a light on it too.

Expensive (like all GoalZero), but rugged and reliable.
Like most tech aficionados, I have a lot of small devices, medium-sized devices, etc. Sometimes these run out and need a charge while traveling, in a meeting, on a plane, you name it.This little device has actually made me ditch my previous Sherpa units (more power but far less portable/rugged), and only carry this one battery. The built in cable (USB and micro-usb) is super handy, and with a tiny USB to lightning cable (separate), it's perfect to charge virtually any USB device I have. It just stays in my backpack, taking up virtually no room and virtually no weight (comparatively), and has been used countless times already. Added bonus, it's waterproof, so no real worries about it being exposed to the elements!Overall, a total winner. If you're only concerned about capacity and price, skip this... GoalZero doesn't seem concerned with being competitive on pricing. However, they are really the king in town when it comes to supporting adventure photographers, adventurers in general, and the entire ruggedized market. Pay the entry fee and enjoy the peace of mind it gives you!

Venture 30 works like a Champ!
Bought this Venture 30 in January 2017. I’ve probably charged it between 150 and 200 times, half with a Nomad 7 out in the Florida sun and half plugged into a pc. It is now August 2019 and it continues to work as good as it did day one, including the flashlight. I’ve dropped it more times than I can remember and it’s been splashed poolside countless times. The one thing that did fail was the USB cable that came with it but any USB cable will work. I ended up buying a refurbished Venture 30 online about a year ago since my wife was using it as much as I was. Now we each have one and they both work as advertised. Like other reviewers have stated, you can buy others at a lower cost but if you keep throwing them in and out of bags and use them outside my experience says stick with the Venture 30 for its durability.

Maybe expected more...
It's ok, but that's about it. For the size, I expected it to last longer. I can charge my Iphone 8 a couple of times and that's about it. I have a couple of older Jackery battery packs that are 1/2 the size that do the same thing. The LED's on the front can serve as a flashlight in addition to a charging indicator, but you can't adjust the brightness (manual says you CAN, but mine doesn't adjust) so unless you want 5 LED's of brighness you are out of luck. I have other Goal Zero products and have liked them, but I wouldn't buy this one again

Couldn't avoid purchasing it; replaced it immediately when I lost it
I snap the Nomad 7 onto the top of my multiday hiking backpack and connect it to the Venture 30 charger. If I'm on a long day hike I can leave the solar panel at home and use it to charge up my navigation unit or keep my cell phone playing music continuously. If I'm traveling I can use my phone while waiting around and not worry about if the charge dies. For setting up camp I usually mount the Nomad 7 onto the tent and run a longer USB cable along the bottom and set the Venture 30 in the vestibule of the tent, within a pocket. One time I left it behind while charging and purchased a replacement right away. Pretty useful for a variety of outdoor scenarios, and of course all the perks of a typical indoor charge unit.

Runs flat with blue leds flashing with *very* light use
Great idea! Purchased July 2018 for the other half who was heading to Scotland for some outdoor activities. Worked wonderfully. Doesn't get very much use these days. Maybe used to charge other a phone instead of using the wall socket. So does the job. Ish!So, what's the problem. The blue LEDs flash as the charge is depleted. Fine with that. However, what we're not fine with is the flickering that accompanies the flashes. And once the phone is disconnected, the LEDs continue to flicker to the point the battery is completely flattened. That is, unless, we randomly unplug the charging cable, press the torch / charge level buttons, somehow cast some incantation over the battery to stop the flickering. If it does stop, we may get another phone charged, though not an iPhone X or later. This was supposed to be a rugged unit. Certainly not if just bumping the buttons causes the LEDs to start flickering and consequently flatten the battery. The worst is picking it up to charge a phone or other device only to discover it's flat. We've never used the torch, so that's a gimick, and another point of failure. We would definitely not have expected it to behave in this fashion after two years of light use. Certainly wouldn't trust it to back us up if we were in the wild for any length of time.Would I pay £90 again knowing it only comes with a 1 year warranty? Not on your nelly!

Great
Great love this little thing. Only downside is it won't allow me to store the cable on itself anymore. The lights just flash. I don't really care tho.
