Oreck AIRPCB Professional Permanent Filter Air Purifier with Optional Ionizer and Quiet Operation, Black

Buyer Beware! These are not the same Oreck Professional XL like I bought in 2006, loved and could not live without. I was trying to replace my two old Orecks with these new ones. The price was great. They still appear to be high quality and well made. But unfortunately, as mentioned by other reviewers, my new Orecks also had a very nasty, strong plastic odor that persisted for weeks. I noticed it immediately when unpacking the product from the tightly sealed plastic bag and small box. The odor was present from the air purifier itself, whether it was running or turned off. Sometimes it smelled a little like car exhaust. I got a bad headache from the odor. I thought about returning them but gave it two weeks and now most of the odor is gone. My friend said she has also ordered products that smell bad that are likely made overseas. You have to put them in the garage for a month to air them out she said. The problem is I do not have a garage. I have a small, old, dusty apartment with no balcony and I bought the Orecks to improve my air quality. My old Orecks did a great job of that (improving the air quality). I am still not sure about the new Orecks. But being a loyal fan of my old Orecks, I decided to keep the new ones and tough it out. To try to eliminate the plastic odor (which is there whether the product is running or not), I turned on both air purifiers and pointed them at each other. I think that helped. I took turns running them giving each time to “air out” as my friend had recommended. I am not sure you want to buy this product. It also has a California Proposition 65 Regulation warning that you might want to research. The warning appears on Oreck.com at the bottom of this products page. My new Orecks have a Canadian registration card and my guess is perhaps they were sold on the west coast USA and now California has this list of products that are linked to cancer and reproductive problems and this product, or some part of it, may be on that list, otherwise, why would Oreck have that warning on its website. Am very disappointed things have changed so much with the manufacturing process. My old Orecks were immediately useful. The new ones take quite a bit of patience and wait time until it seems like they are improving the air in my apartment, due to the plastic odor issue (which is worse when they are running). Again, I’ve had them for two or three weeks now and all is much better so I will probably keep them.

Immediately upon opening the box, I noticed a strong, chemical odor coming from the unit. This smell did not dissipate even after the unit aired out for a few days. Running the air purifier did not help the situation, it only made the entire room smell bad and gave me a headache. I bought this unit to replace an older model Oreck air purifier that worked beautifully for approximately 15 years before the motor finally wore out. That one actually improved air quality as one would expect an air purifier to do! The newer "toxic" model has been returned.

It does what it was designed to do. I am disappointed because the unit is not as big as the old Air Pro units it is replacing. This unit is about 2/3's the size and has to be cleaned every two weeks it appears so far. The 10 year old Air pros ran a month before I had to clean them and they rarely ever had the service light come on.Bottom line, New Air Pros are not out there anymore. So, When you have bad allergies and can't live without one of these......you buy what you can find.

I bought this Oreck to replace one several years ago. When I received this one I had difficulty putting the lid back on after it was cleaned. With all that cheap plastic underneath I can see why. After struggling to put the lid back on and finally succeeding it doesn't work anymore. After contacting an Exclusive Oreck store they said they will not honor the warranty because it was bought from Amazon.They aren't what they use to be and I would not recommend buying this unit from amazon or Oreck itself.***Buyer Beware***

I’ve owned Oreck air cleaners for yrs. The last one I had for 20 or more yrs before it started shorting out so I decided to replace the 2 I had with 2 new ones. The new ones are junk. The cell on nether 1 can be cleaned. We tried cleaning out the new ones like we did the old ones & u simply can’t get them clean the red cell light just keeps flashing on both units & no matter how hard we tried to clean them couldn’t get them clean enough to to get light off. The new ones nothing like the older style which cleaned easily. I would not recommend these newer ones to anyone. I e mailed Oreck & not one person responded. New ones are JUNK DONT BUY!!!!

Was reviewing this on a few websites and asked a friend who has been using this model for years. It is excellent! Cleans the air thoroughly enough to the point where my severe allergies has disappeared, leaving with a good nights rest. Easy to disassemble and clear. Made well. Pretty quite. Love this product and will certainly be buying at least 3 more! Thank you for this.

I’ve used electrostatic filters on forced air furnaces, but never had one for a stand-alone room air purifier. I’m very impressed with its performance.I purchased this for use in my basement/crawl space which has a dirt floor which has ash from the old wood burning heater mixed in. When working in the basement, the fine particles get whipped up and get on everything / including upstairs in the living space.A regular HEPA would be useless in this environment. It would easily burn through a filter each time I worked down there.This filter has been amazing. It can clean the fine soot particles out of the air and - while I need to wash the filter every couple of weeks - it has kept the dust from invading the upstairs.I can’t tell you how happy I am with this purchase.

It's bigger than I thought it would be. My fault. It's 1' x 17". Forget using the "high" option and watching tv or sleeping or THINKING! It's LOUD. It does seem to clean the air well enough and my indoor allergies have improved. It doesn't clean the air all that well of odors when the neighbor cooks, I believe NOTHING could. I kept it because I have tried 2 other different air cleaners and this was the best of them. I think a less expensive model would do as well and it's important to check how many square feet it works best for. You may need more than one. It's like shoveling against the tide to move a model designed for small rooms from room to room.

Having read reviews on this product I was expecting great things. Disappointed in it for a number of reasons, including the smell it gives off which does not seem to be going away and the requirement to clean the cell happens very quickly. In my case it started sparking within a few days. It is quiet however.

We've had the ORECK AIRPCB professional Permanent Filter Air Purifier for two weeks. The dust levels in the main portion of the house has dropped significantly. I haven't dusted for two weeks and ordinarily I would have a lot of dust after such a long period of time(we own a dog). We had hardly anything. In the past, when the sun shone into the room we could see dust particles in the air. Now when the sun shines in the air is clear!!

It doesn't work.My Mom and Dad are using it and they had one before so when my Mom goes to clean it, there's nothing to clean. My Mom thinksIt's a fake one. No serial number.Also my Mom couldn't find any serial numbers on it anywhere.We have heard about someproducts that are counterfeit. This might be one.They really need one that worksI hope you help.Lori Small

This machine is very effective, no buyers remorse. It will require the purchase of Oreck cell cleaner at intervals as the cell gets filthy rather fast but that stuff was in the air first. It only does a small room so I may purchase another soon.
