Classic, reliable tech without some of the baggage of flashier stuff.
Actually just retired ours, owing only to changes in our local carrier/cost and not to any dissatisfaction with this wonderful little phone system. And, out of respect to this product, and a little bit of sadness, I want to say that in the last decade or whatnot that it's served our family, it never let us down once. We bought the same system for my folks, and they're still using theirs. The sound quality is superior to cell phones, the setup was plug-and-play, the programmable numbers and other features were user friendly, and the design was just right for my home office but also for the many professional (dentist, mechanic) offices I've happily recognized, "hey, you have the same phone system as my family!" Get this if you want a basic, workhorse system. The only "complaint," and it's minor, is that it only comes in a two-line version. Meaning that if your house only has one line, it will politely inform you through an inobtrusive little light on the side of the main console that you should "check line 2." This doesn't impact function in any way, but does sometimes confuse my elderly dad with memory problems, who will periodically come to me or my mom with a look of concern, "I think the phone is notifying us of a problem." It would be nice if they'd offered a single-line option, but not a big deal. Just plug in one line, and ignore the inobtrusive little "check line 2 message." Other than that, I'd still be using this gem of a phone system if my particular phone carrier choices hadn't forced my hand into going cell only. I already miss this phone. If you can keep your land line, do, and get one of these!

Terrific 2 Line Wireless Phone - Love it
This is a great product. It works right out of the box. It has a wide range covering our entire house. The voice quality is very high. And it has extra's like Bluetooth so you can link your cell phone to the handsets. We have a fairly large house (4500 sq. ft.) and this one base unit covers the entire house. I had bought an Extender but I am not using it. First, the setup is very easy. You plug in the base unit (I have two lines) and go through the menus to configure time/date. The handsets link up automatically when they detect the base unit so there is no configuration there. I think the only thing I changed was the Caller ID announcement which basically ended up shouting all over the house the caller (since every handset announces the caller as well). I could have turned it down but it was a feature I did not use. Each handset gets the time from the base unit so there is no configuration. You do need to set up your preferences by handset for things like Caller ID announcement. That makes sense since each handset will be in a different location and may need a louder/softer ring tone, etc. You can set a different ring for Line 1 vs. Line 2 - very nice. Usage: As I said, the range of the DECT phone technology is amazing and works throughout the house with very high quality. I have 4 handsets and they all work very well. Love them. They are small, compact and don't take up much space. I think the only complaint is that my wife would like them in white vs. black. I have not used them off the stand long enough to test battery life.

It's Good, Not Perfect
Before replacing my old Panasonic 2-Line phone system I did a lot of research, and it came down to the Panny KX-TG9542B and the AT&T TL86103. They are both very similar, but I chose the Panasonic because of it's approx. 60 minute recording time (about 22 minutes for AT&T), and the Call Blocking feature (which AT&T does not offer). My two biggest concerns about the Panasonic was the lack of a "Hold" button on the handsets, and the "non-duplex" speaker phone on the base unit. Now that I've been using this phone system for a few weeks I want to share my experience. As for my concerns, it turns out that I can put a current call on Line 1 on "hold" when a second call is coming in on Line 2 by simply pressing the Line 2 button to answer the incoming call (the Line 1 call is automatically put on hold). Then when finished with the call on Line 2, I simply press the Line 1 button to continue with the original call. I did not think this would work this way, but so far it has. So the "no hold button" issue has not been a factor for me. Unfortunately, the "non-duplex" speakerphone on the base unit has presented the problems you would expect...people on the other end of a call telling me my voice is breaking up or they can't make out what I'm saying. The quick fix is obviously to pick up the handset and have a clear conversation. So for those who need a full-duplex speakerphone, this is not the phone for you. I can make it work if I'm patient and wait until the other person is completely finished speaking before I start to speak...not necessarily as easy as it sounds...but even a little simultaneous speaking or a decent amount of background office noise can render this speakerphone practically unusable. Other than this, the base unit and separate handsets have worked well. The choice of ringer sounds are pretty bad, but not so bad that we can't live with the ones we have chosen. The "Call Block" feature has been great. We get hit by so many telemarketers and robo-calls...whenever one of these calls comes in, we hang up, then bring up the number on the Caller ID, and save it to the "blocked number" list. When I'm in my office, and I see the base unit screen light up with the "Incoming Call" alert, it's a great feeling when the phone doesn't ring, and I see the "blocked call" message. Also, I have used the Bluetooth feature to link my cellphone to the Panasonic system, and it has worked well throughout my house, so when a call to my cellphone comes in, and my cellphone is in another room, I can answer the call on the closest Panasonic handset...no more scrambling to find the cellphone while it's ringing. The one area where the AT&T phone is better is that it allows you to have two cellphones in use with their phone system at the same time. In our case, it would be nice for my wife and I to be able to use both our cellphones through the Panasonic system at the same time. We have both our cellphones linked to the system, but Panasonic only allows you to use one cellphone through the system at a time. Since our cellphones are generally with us or close by, this has not been a major problem so far. One of the other convenient Bluetooth features is that we easily transferred the contact list phone numbers from both our cellphones to the Panasonic base unit, and now have access to all those numbers, now that they are in the phonebook of every handset. I must admit, I was looking forward to the "Talking Caller ID" feature, but we may decide to turn it off. It actually works as advertised, but the announcement starts around the second ring, and with the answering machine ready to grab incoming calls on the fourth ring, we are accustomed to picking up calls by the second or third ring. Also, the "speaking phone" is not very eloquent...mispronouncing names or simply announcing the phone number. So yes, the feature works, but we're not sold on it's functionality. Lastly, the answering machine feature has all the basics you would expect. I easily recorded personal outgoing messages for both phone lines (rather than using the available "stock" messages), set the number of rings before answering, and it has worked well. In conclusion, my pre-purchase researched showed me that there is no perfect phone system. For me, this Panasonic KXT-TG9542B was the best choice. The biggest issue is the poor speakerphone (which may very well be a "deal-breaker" for some folks), but I'll try to live with and work around it because I'm fairly sure there isn't any other 2-line cordless phone system out there (in this price range) that is any better overall.

Very Good 2-Line Phone
Not many people use landlines anymore, but I did need one for my coffee shop. This was a great choice. This comes with 2 handsets, and one sits in the main base, while the other has a small base that can be place in another room. The base also has an answering machine, which was great for late night calls from customers who wanted to leave orders for the next day. This was easy to set up and for the price, I thought it was a good choice for us. We had this and used it for several years.

Crisp, clear sound..No static!
I am very happy with this phone! I had an older Panasonic model that I just adored to death and I am sorry to say that it did in fact die! I and a friend helping me went on a quest to find a comparable replacement. By process of elimination I narrowed it down to a few that I wanted to read more about. My friend jumping the gun, ordered from Ebay (mistake!!) one of the ones I was possibly interested in...it was also a Panasonic model but it pooped out within a few months. Of course my friend could not offer me the chance to exchange it as he had fallen for the 'best' price from an ebay seller and now there was no place to return it. (I had told my friend that it appeared used and not new as described). I decided to finish the search I had started in selected a phone I would want and be happy with and decided on this one...I LOVE IT! This phone has all the features I wanted and works! No static, crisp and clear. I have had friends state there is a major difference between this model and the one from ebay! This is a two line phone, comes with two hadsets (yay!) and has talking called ID. It will play music when you place a call on hold which I feel is an awesome feature! It also has Link2Cell capabilities! All in all, I am very satisfied with this Panasonic Model phone and am happy to own it!

4 minor issues, otherwise a good system
I've had this Panasonic 2-line system for 5 months now, and overall it's a good system - easy to set up and use. It does everything it's supposed to do, and the ability to link up to 4 cell phones to the system is a nice plus. Here's what I did *not* like: 1) the sound quality on the handset speakers sounds slightly muffled, not clear and crisp. This is uniform across all six handsets. With a headset the quality is much better. 2) Although the description says it's expandable up to 6 handsets, be aware that the base unit counts a 1 of the 6 - so, you can only add a maximum of 5 additional handsets to the base phone. 3) There is no "privacy" setting - when you have a conversation on the base phone, there's no button on the system to turn off other ringers (i.e. the handset on the base). I had this feature on my old phone system, and it was very useful. 4) Some of the phone features are buried under menus and not easy to find - for example, making a conference call. Other phone systems have a "Conference" button on the base or handset that will connect two active calls - with this system, you have to navigate through a menu system which is not particularly intuitive. Save your manuals! Admittedly, these are relatively minor "issues", but I wish I had known about them before committing to this system. I would love to be able to add 1 or 2 more handsets to the system. Oh well . . . :-(

Great Phone for My Office
I bought this In January, 2014 and just never set it up until last month. Sorry I waited so long. It is terrific! I bought this Panasonic to replace my office phone. I spend a lot of time on the phone, so I use a headset. The phone has a lot of features, but so far I've had no trouble getting use to the way it does things. The phone was easy to set-up and has a "Quick Guide" as well as a comprehensive manual with Operating Instructions. I find the phone's menus easy to follow (even without consulting the manual). I've had similar phones and do all my own computer tech work, so your mileage may vary. There are some features on the phone that absolutely will need the manual to use effectively, because you need to enter codes to access the features and the codes are in the manual. For the most part these are settings that once you set them up, you can forget them. Still, you'll probably want to keep the manual around so you can change the settings in future. There are two kinds of people -- those who won't read the manual and those who eat that stuff for lunch (you know who you are). If you fall in the latter group, like me, then you can download the manual and read it before you buy (I did) and store it on your computer for easy access later. I found the manual useful. One picky thing I noted when reading it -- the instructions have a heading -- like How to do (something) on the handset -- and then do not mention the word "handset" in the body of the instructions. I was confused a few times, because I thought I was reading instructions related to the base unit and then realized that the heading (on the prior page) referred to the handset (or vice versa). Since some of the keys on the base unit are different from the keys on the handset, this confused me until I realized my mistake. (My fault for reading the manual selectively and not cover-to-cover like a novel, but I do think the instructions would be more clear if the word "handset" or "base" were in the body of the instructions more often.) As I said, picky. The phone has a lot of neat features. For example, I have caller id and, after two rings, the phone announces the name of the caller, so I don't have to cross the room to read caller id! A feature I never knew I needed, but now that I have it, don't want to give it up. So far, I haven't used the "link-to-cell" feature, but I do charge my iPhone 5 from the side of this Panasonic phone and that's so convenient. The phone has two separate answering machines -- one for line 1 and another for line 2 -- and you can set-up different custom messages for each one. I use Verizon's voicemail and bought this phone so that I'd have my own answering machine in case Verizon's went down. (This has only happened once in nearly 20 years, but I don't want to miss any calls from my clients.) I haven't had the need to use the phone's answering machines, but I can say the custom greetings were easy to set-up. My conclusion: If you need a 2-line phone with good sound quality, a huge phonebook, and lots of features, consider this phone. Of all the programmable phones I've had, and I've had several over the years, I like this one the best. If you want a dead simple phone, then this may not be for you, but if you're willing to read a little, you'll be rewarded for your effort.

Avoid this system at all costs!
This could be a great phone, if it wasn't full of disappointing failures. Cons: 1) The menu is set up sloppy and slow to use. 2) On the handheld unit the hold process is 3 steps. Why would any phone company make the hold option a 3 step process? 3) The hold music is extremely loud and horrible for the person who’s on hold and has no customized settings other than on or off. It’s completely useless. 4) The speakerphone options is pretty much useless. 5) My biggest issue is with the headphone plug. Moving the plug just a small amount will cause your caller to barely be able to hear you, or it returns to normal causing them to get blasted in the ear after turning their side up all the way to just be able to hear you. After buying this unit I read up on the reviews (should of read more before I purchased) and I saw others were complaining about this same issue, and some said after replacing their headsets with Panasonic ones they solved the issue. I used a Plantronics headset for the last 10 years on 3 other phone systems without issue, but I purchased 2 Panasonic headsets that were deemed “compatible” by Panasonic itself. However this didn't solve the issue. Even worse after Panasonic sent me a replacement kit to “fix” the issue the two headsets of theirs became even worse. 5) Even holding the handset to your head you will head your callers asking you to repeat things as they couldn't hear you. So the sound quality of this system is just trash. Sounds great on my end, but if callers can't hear you then what’s the point? 6) The Bluetooth headset options sounds nice, but then you realize you can't use that and the cell phone Bluetooth as the same time. So it becomes more of a hassle then a nice option. All and all I bought this system thinking it would be a nice option to eliminate having to have two phones in each location of the house and though it would be nice to have one unit that could handle all the options. However no amount of convenient features can make up for the lack of being able to acutely use the system to make and receive quality calls and the features to this system aren’t much to speak of. I would not recommend this system to anyone, and I hope those of you who have to deal with Panasonic’s support staff end up having better luck with them then I did. Lot of nice people who like Comcast seem to forget to do anything they said they would and require a LOT of calling back to stay on top of their work for them. I will not be buying another Panasonic unit for a very very very long time.
