Product Description DVD desertcart.com It comes from Hollywood's era of grown-up "topic" movies, but Kings Go Forth has not left much of a trail. Two GIs, stationed near the French Riviera toward the end of World War II, compete for the love of a local girl (Natalie Wood). Her secret: Her father was black. The guys are Frank Sinatra, in his lost and lonely key, and Tony Curtis, as a spoiled kid breezing by on his looks (this was the same year Curtis did The Defiant Ones, also on race). Director Delmer Daves was very good at this kind of melancholy melodrama (see also A Summer Place), but this movie's non-reputation is easy to understand; it's mild and sentimental at its core. The only character that doesn't seem to be Representing Something is Sinatra's tender portrait of a soldier at loose ends, a far cry from his nervy Maggio in From Here to Eternity. --Robert Horton Review: MUST SEE, THIS MOVIE REALLY DELIVERS, 5 FOR SUBSTANCE - BLACK & WHITE MOVIES DON'T BOTHER ME WHEN IT IS A PERIOD PIECE; THIS PERIOD IS WW II. MOVIE IS MULTI-LAYERED BEYOND WAR. PART OF THE BRILLIANCE IS SHOWING THE STARK CONTRAST OF A SOLDER'S WAR EXPERIENCE COMPARED TO TIME SPENT ON LEAVE TO ENJOY LIFE. EXPECT GREAT CASTING, ACTING, WITH SINATRA AT HIS FINEST NATURAL ACTING ABILITY. THE SCRIPT AND PLOT HAVE SUSPENSE, SURPRISE, SHOCK, THAT KEEP YOU GUESSING. IT HAS SOME SWEET AND SENTIMENTAL MOMENTS. IT ALSO HAS MORE COMPLEXITY WITH AN INTIMATE LOOK INTO CHARACTERS AND MEANINGFUL ISSUES. THERE WERE SOME SOLEMN LINES CONTAINED IN SOME MOMENTS THROUGHOUT THE FILM. Review: Yestereyear movie the way they made them - great story line, great actors, wonderful direction. - When you want to watch great actors at work, you can's go wrong with "Kings Go Forth". A professional production worth watching.

Best movie ever! Staring Bud Stanchik, as a the best extra ever!
When this movie was being filmed, the crew reached out the the local US Army personnel stationed in France, at that time. My Step-Dad answered the casting call and was selected as an extra. We can pick him out in a marching segment and in a bar segment. So please enjoy Kings Go Forth, staring Sylvester Bud Stanchik.

A sad waste of a potentially gripping narrative
The basic narrative contains enormous potential. The love triangle consists of a regular everyday lieutenant, a womanising sergeant from a highly privileged background and a beautiful and innocent young woman, who - whilst this is not obvious from her appearance - has mixed race parents. To add to the dramatic potential, they are portrayed by front rank stars. Alas, all this potential is wasted on a desperately limp script. The mixed race issue is mentioned, but plays an low-key role in the film. The class difference between the lieutentant and the sergeant is played up, but turned into melodrama. Perhaps inevitably, the ending is excessively sugary.

Not realistic or a good love story...
The movie though slow had good love story potential up the where she totally disrespects Frank Sinatra's character, the respect, care, and love he gave then the loyalty he showed (that she was so ecstatic about), following what in those days would have been a huge bomb that she laid on him the week prior (that being her dead dad was black, also, we're supposed to buy Natalie Wood as half-black, really?), she just falls for the first cool guy with a handsome face she sees at the start of their date that very night. Really? Why did they suddenly turn her into such a selfish shallow person? Any guy with a spine would have told her off and never spoke to her again. Why are we now supposed to care what happens next with such a vapid girl who would do that? I was done right there, I really couldn't care less who ends up with who, he's spineless and she's worthless to ever trust, I don't care how they spin the story or how she might magically learn the error of her ways.

Frank Sinatra is a surprisingly good actor
Not in color but you overlook that. Different but enjoyable.

Both false and enchanting love, set in wartime.
Absorbing WWII story from picturesque southern France. A number of twists and turns, of charm, love and scorn, along with a dose of heroism. Loved the sights and reminders of life amidst war. Intrigue amidst the twists as a result of flawed character. Several enchanting elements, at least on a personal level.
