Advanced Headache Therapy: Outpatient Strategies

I love Michael Kelstrom's review. So perfectly said. I also have been a patient of Dr. Robbins for many years. Lucky to have found one of the top migraine specialists in the country. Prior to that I was with one other Neurologists & a few Internists. All of whom failed. With Dr. Robbins immense knowledge and care, I have been learning to deal with my migraines & neuralgia pain (still have the occasional ER visit) I just wish there was a cure for migraines... maybe someday. This book really helps one understand the migraine journey and what one can do to help with the intense incurable pain. Dr. Robbins gives insight into what options are out there to help those that, unfortunately don't have access to a migraine specialist. This book also answers so many questions with "ah ha" moments. It's nice to have a book to refer to when you question your treatment. Knowledge is power and here we have Dr. Robbins offering his. I highly recommend this book to others that suffer with this incurable painful neurological disease. Does your own doctor not understand your migraines, but wants to help you? Hand him this book!

This is the most informative books on headaches I've read in a long time. I have suffered from debilitating chronic headaches all my life and have read all of the headache books telling me what to eat, it's all in my head, buy my product, etc., etc, This book from Robbins is well documented in science, explaining causes, what works, what doesn't, all of which he explains in a very understandable way. I have been treated (or mistreated) by several well meaning physicians said who were simply not "headache literate" and this is a great book for them as well.

As a 3+ decade migraineur, I'm constantly on the prowl for quality information pertaining to my malady. Lawrence Robbins has the gift of explaining a very complex and difficult to understand medical condition in terms that even I can understand. The most "experienced" migraineur should find this book a valuable addition to their arsenal of migraine knowledge which can help in the never-ending quest for pain relief. While many books on migraine headache can be extremely dry and dusty, Advanced Headache Therapy is a refreshingly easy to understand read.

As a Psychiatrist who runs into patients with headaches almost daily, this is a nice follow up to his previous book. Well worth the read.

Outstanding, Comprehensive, Very Readable and Superior to Other Publications in the Field -- and Yes, Dr. Robbins is "The Best". First, I agree with the earlier reviewer who stated that Dr. Robbins is the best at what he does. I have had daily migraines for 50 years, the last 30 of which I have been a patient of Dr. Robbins (previously and during saw other elite specialists in the field). Dr. Robbins' personal approach to determining the individual best treatment plan for each patient, which is continually reviewed, along with having empathy for their sufferings, comes across very well in this book. The book demonstrates that there is no miracle cure for migraines, nor is there one universal treatment plan that is best for all migraine patients. Instead, there is a multitude of possibilities, which in some combination may provide the maximum attainable benefits for each individual in managing their severe headaches, and having as high of a quality of life as possible. The book presents a very complicated esoteric subject in a very readable fashion, and will help people with serious headaches better understand their disease and the many other health issues that are related to the pain. Everyone having migraines or chronic severe headaches can benefit from reading this outstanding book.

An excellent primer on scientifically proven treatments for chronic/severe headaches. Covers preventative as well as abortive treatments, drug and non-drug. What makes this book fabulous is there is no claim to a "one-size-fits-all" treatment, all patients and all their headaches are different. To achieve the most effective long-term relief, a careful diagnosis of the type of headache and medical and/or lifestyle complications should be made, but as important is treating the patient with empathy and including suggestions for treating the "whole" patient - stress reduction and exercise, diet, cognitive/behavioral therapy, physical therapy, etc. Most people with chronic debilitating headaches don't have access to a world-class headache specialist. I was almost 2 years into my now 5-year long 24/7 headache-from-hell before I found Dr. Robbins. He had and continues to have a sense of urgency and genuine regard for my ability to lead a normal life again. It definitely pays to educate yourself and your family and if you have to, your doctor!

I am fortunate enough to be a patient of Dr. Robbins and this book is extremely helpful. I would say to anybody out there who suffers from any type of severe headache you should buy this book. It is the bible for the headache sufferer. Many physicians do not understand this illness and,as many of you know, you must advocate for yourselves. If your doctor doesn't know about a particular headache treatment, show him/her this book! He/she should be happy to learn new techniques to lessen your pain. Best of luck!
