McAlpine 1-1/4" Space Saver Basin Waste Trap Self Closing WHB-1

Great so space saving no smells only had for a couple of weeks but so far we'll pleased

This is a perfect solution for a gurgling trap in your bathroom basin when letting water out of the bath. Instantly solved the gurgling waste in basin and stopped the sewer gases and smells coming up through the trap

Stops smells but not the noise of the echos from the soil pipe, easy install good product better of with a proper trap to stop noise also

Used on a surface mounted vessel basin, no larger than a 90 degree waste bend which means I can have a proper drawer in the vanity unit as opposed to the ones which are designed to fit round a conventional trap. Has been fitted for the past few months, no problems with gasses from the soil pipe coming back through the waste and it can drain water faster than the taps can deliver it. Have never had a problem with any McAlpine fittings, they seem to be well made and they work.

Easy to fit. Great for those tight spaces.

Both and fitted a new sink and sink unit. The previous standard ubend prevented unit drawer from opening. Bought this and bingo, works perfectly.

Was sceptical like others but this works perfectly. We have a vintage chest converted into a sink and didn't want to lose the functionality of the top drawer, this works wonderfully and does save loads of drawer space. I haven't noticed any smell coming up either which is what concerned me.

This worked well for a tight space within a sink vanity unit, however...There is a plastic 'flap' inside that is meant to provide a seal against odour. As flow passes through the internal flap, it opens and then closes as flow stops, but any debris (like you often get in sink drainage) can prevent the flap from sealing. This is fairly easy to dismantle, but quite tricky to reassemble and needs cleaning every couple of months to prevent odours escaping into the bathroom. If you can find another solution to your pipework constraints, choose that instead!
