Two Truths and a Lie: It's Alive!

My daughter is in 5th grade, and has ADHD and some other anxiety issues. She doesn’t participate in our school’s current reading curriculum (Accelerated Reader) bc she struggles with the competitive nature of it, and because books with antagonist/protagonist story lines cause her a lot of anxiety. Nonfiction books are what works for her, but they are difficult to find for her reading level and interests. This series of books has really made her enjoy reading again, she even takes them to school with her. I hope more are published!

Highly engaging informational book that presents three unusual stories about plants and animals around the world, but only two of them are true!Two things I loved: that the authors want readers to go and research to find the truths (or lies) for themselves. The research guide gives them tips on how to spot “fake news,” where to go to find reliable sources, and when to use common sense. The world needs this now. The second thing was the book’s structure: organized in three parts (plants, animals, and humans) with engaging text features and side notes, Two Truths is a feast for the eyes that will have kids saying, “Wow!”

My fourth-grade daughter LOVES this whole series! We had to buy them for our home library. The facts are so unique and fun, and the illustrations/graphic design are clean and beautiful. Look forward to more of these books!

I haven't had the chance to use this with my students yet. There is a lot of text for third graders, but I can work with that. This will be great in teaching about "fake news" - how do you know when something is real? How do you know what sources to trust? There are two additional titles in this series coming out and I'm looking forward to getting them too.

I teach 5th grade and my students love this book! They ask for it as a read aloud and enjoy debate as to what facts seem true and why they think this way.

This is a fantastic book for kids of all ages! We read it around a pool this summer and had so much fun guessing the lie and learning so much from the truths! My teacher sister absconded with my original copy and then my second went to a well-deserving teacher friend! Buy it for classrooms and coffee tables! You won't be disappointed!

The format for this book is brilliant for middle-grade readers! Each chapter has three sections with three different "stories." Two are true; one contains a lie. However, all three sections contain some pretty unbelievable content. Such a fun book to read and discuss with kids. I love the extra tips about research included in the book. A great way to show students the importance of thinking critically, questioning, and verifying facts. You can't believe everything you read!

I LOVE these books! What rattling good stories! Each chapter has three tales which all sound equally plausible or ridiculous. The reader’s job? To pick the one that is true! Sounds easy, right? Well, just when I think I know which is the one, I find myself surprised! They’re geared for ages 8-12 but, as you can tell, even those older can thoroughly enjoy them. We are buying both for each of our girls’ homes so the grandkids can enjoy them. Who knows, I might even have to buy a set for myself, too 😉

Wow - I have never seen kids so excited to read/listen to non-fiction stories! They are so attentive as they try to pick out detail that may/may not be "true". A hit all 'round with my 7 and 10 year old boy and girl! Can't wait to use this book in the classroom this fall!
