(Almost) Everything I had hoped for.
I have never owned a heated mattress pad before, so I don't really have much first-hand experience for comparison. However, as always I try and do my research, and I did so with this purchase. After having the pad for a couple of days, here's my impressions. The most common issue I saw complained about with other brands/models was that the wires were noticeable under the sheets when the bed is made up. This pad is quite thick, more so than most normal mattress pads, and I cannot feel any wires through it at all, at least on the normal surfaces.Another issue I saw mentioned with other brands was that the plugs for the control and power wires were on top of the pad towards the feet area, meaning you will hit them with your feet at night while moving around and where they may be the furthest away from a power outlet. This model has the plug(s) at the head of the bed on the vertical portion of the mattress (the side against the headboard), making it easy to run the wires down and under the head of the bed and into a plug on the wall. Some pads like these apparently can emit a whistling sound from the transformers in the power bricks when heating. I have very sensitive hearing (I easily hear fluorescent light bulbs and old tube TVs from a hundred feet away), but I was unable to hear anything from my units. This may not be true of all units, as sometimes a good bump or jarring can result in the whistling noise in the transformers, in my experience. No promises on this point. The elastic skirt that wraps around the mattress is quite deep, able to easily handle my pillow-top mattress that is well above average in thickness. The installation instructions, if you need them, are very well done, but the only thing you really need to know is that the plugs go to the head of the bed. Pretty easy. And yes, you can use a power strip to plug both plugs into as long as it is UL listed. As for actual performance, the pad provides warm, even heating to the entire area that is not at all hot to the touch. It simply feels very much like the bed has already been warmed up with body heat, except that there are no cold spots. Head to foot of the mattress is evenly and comfortably warmed. No more cold feet. The control unit has 11 heat settings ranging from Low, through 1-9, and up to High with a smooth turning knob. The setting you choose will be highly dependent on how thick your covers are as well as how hot you like your bed. I will say that with a thick comforter on top, the 5 setting was actually hot and 3 was just comfortable. I can't imagine how hot High would be. I'm betting covers would be optional. On Queen size and larger units, there are actually two control units and two plugs. The heating elements can be set for two different temperatures left side and right side. However, if there is one shortcoming of this design it is that those of us who do not share a queen or larger bed end up with having to set two control units, and the control cord to the unit is not quite long enough to comfortably reach to a nightstand on the opposite side of the bed. Thus you have to wrangle two controls, not one, when you're going to bed. A better solution would have been to have the option of having only one control unit optionally control both heating zones, even if it still required two plugs. A minor inconvenience, but an inconvenience nonetheless.Lastly, the on/off switch on both control units is the push-button electronic type, not a manual switch. Therefore it would not be possible to plug a power cord into a timer and have the pad start heating up automatically at a preset time. Obviously, there is no built-in feature for this either, though it will turn itself off after 10 hours, automatically. This is probably intended as a safety feature. However, the instructions indicate it will heat up to max heat in about 30 minutes, and lower heat settings will be reached much sooner, depending on other factors such as how thick the covers are.All in all this seems to be a high quality unit worth the premium over other, lesser models. I'm happy with the purchase so far and have gifted two to other family members.UPDATE: I ordered three of these, one for myself and two as Christmas gifts. I have been using mine without any problems at all for about 2 months, now. One of the others seems to be working just fine. However, the third one worked only one night and then stopped. I was informed by the gift recipient that it made a very strange electrical noise that second night and then completely stopped working. Since it was a Queen size model, she tried swapping over the control unit from the other side and it still did not work, suggesting the problem was in the pad itself, not the control, though the noise came from the control unit, apparently.Though it had been some time since I had ordered it, it was still within the return window for Amazon, and as always, Amazon handled it exceptionally well. I received a replacement on the same day I returned the defective one (i.e., they sort of "crossed in the mail"). Shipping both ways was free, though I supplied the return box.I share this to point out two things. First, check that the units are functioning before you wait too long. Amazon has a limit to the return window, and though I was within it, it wasn't by much. If this is a gift, I'd urge you to encourage the recipient to test it out soon after receipt in case it has to be returned. I would think that running it up to high heat for a while would be sufficient to detect any flaws in the wiring or controls.Second, though mine has been flawless, and one of the other two seems to have been as well, it appears that build quality on these is not up to snuff. I noted on some other reviews that the control units on at least one made a strange noise. This may be an indication of imminent failure. Both of my controls on my unit have been completely silent. I'm guessing that if they are making a noise, it's a reflection of a fault either in the control or, possibly, in the wiring of the pad itself. Note that there was no smoke, fire, or smoldering on any part of the pad or control units on the one that failed. It simply stopped working.

Snug as a bug...in a can
OK, so I am a bit picky about my bedding. This is where my body gets to rest and recharge, so I like to have a really comfortable bed. I have used this mattress pad for two months when it was most needed - January and February. During the work week, I live in a travel trailer...with a very comfy bed! :) Although it has upgraded insulation and a good furnace, the cold creeps in easily. One of those places is under the bed because there is a storage space and no heat vents. Give this beauty 15-20 minutes to warm up and my bed becomes a toasty cacoon. I have it placed over another pad for comfort. They work very well together and it fits snuggly over the pad and mattress. The wires haven't been noticeable and the heat seems to be well distributed. So far, my controllers have not been above 4 and that was just for a quicker warmup on a really cold night. Most nights it is set at 2, even when outside temps hover around freezing and my thermostat is on 62. The gentle heat also seems to be helping with the arthritis in my hips and back. There is plenty of cord to configure the controllers in a way that is convenient. Travel trailers aren't known for having an abundance of electrical plugs, but it was easy to work out a nice arrangement. For my situation, a heated mattress pad was the best solution to beat the cold that congregated in my bed. This mattress pad has proven to be comfortable, reliable (so far) and versatile. After looking at over a dozen different models before making a purchase, I feel the research has proven to be worth it. I can't guarantee how you will like one, I love mine!

Broken after less than a year
Update: 2016 Dec. After less than a year, one half the pad does not heat up. It's not the controller because switching the two controllers has no effect. The company does not have a serviceable website! The one listed in the warranty does not come up. Googling another PFISleep.com comes up, has pictures but no live links or any way to contact the company for service. Guess I will have to call them during business hours and try to get warranty service. Ugh. May just stick with good old thick blankets and our hot water bottles. No "warranty problems."Had a Sunbeam that quit after a year. Can any company make an electric blanket that doesn't cr*p out after one season?ORIGINAL REVIEW: We just got it, but I will say that so far it's quite nice. Much more convenient than a blanket, as you can change the sheets without having all the wires on the blanket bottom getting all fouled up. I don't really feel the wires at all, though it's probably not quite as comfy as our regular nice mattress pad which we removed and replaced with this. It's not a heat powerhouse and takes at least 30 minutes to really heat up a bed. It is quite warm but not sweaty hot. I have an older electric blanket that gets truly hot on high, much hotter than this, which is kind of nice on a frigid night if you've had a chill, or if you haven't remembered to flip on well before you get in bed. But not really necessary. I was concerned that this would not get warm enough. It is though.Uses very little electricity. Checked it with a Kill A Watt meter, on high or while warming up the Queen size draws about 70 watts per side and of course it has two sides. Once up to temp each side draws less on lower settings. On low each side draws about 10 watts, on 5 it draws about 35W. If you leave it on high it would stay up around 65W. But I would never leave it on high all night, that would be way too much unless you are staying in an unheated shack in Alaska or something. I would say on average for 9 hours a night with both sides on 3 or 4 , it would average about 50 watts which is less than half a kWh - let's just say less than 10 cents per night.I do like the fact that it's low voltage on the blanket itself. Wrapping yourself up in 120V wiring always has seemed like a dicey idea to think about. Don't spill your water glass! We had a Sunbeam blanket. The heating wires are large and noticeable, making it not terribly nice as blankets go, and one side no longer gets hot after a couple of years. This is definitely an upgrade and well worth the money (assuming it lasts a few years.)

Excellent Product
I ordered this mattress pad because of the low voltage thin wires heating element. It heats up quickly upon switching on. i don't feel the wires in the pad so the pad is very comfortable. i can regulate the temperature so it is not too warm. This pad doesn't have a timer so I must remember to shut it off. This pad allows my back muscles to relax. I have only had this for 2 weeks so I can not say how it is on the long term, but I am happy with this purchase.

Comfy, simple to use, silent!
I did a lot of reading and comparing before buying this one. I think I got it right. It really is a soft mattress cover, and you truely can’t feel the wires. Previous band I had to put a mattress cover over the electric blanket to prevent the lumps. Not with this one.It does give a nice even coverage of heat. May not have the instant heat done offer, but I just turn it up high about 10 mins before bed, and then down to about 3 or 4.I love the silent on / off. Some brands have a mechanical switch that you can hear click on and off through the night, this one is electronic and silent. The control is simple, and easy to use in the dark. The attachment to the blanket is in each corner, easy to plugin, not in the middle as per previous brand.Very pleased with the decision.

It worked fine for the first month or so
It worked fine for the first month or so, then one of the controls melted. That tells me the quality leaves something to be desired. Not worth the price I paid for it

Good so far!
I've read some bad reviews about the cords turning brown, or that the pad is too hot or that it is not hot enough. The way I use this pad is:- top sheet- heated mattress pad- bottom sheet- Memory foam mattressI've only had it for a week, but so far it's working to my satisfaction. I turn it all the way up to 9 or HI, and it gives a very relaxing kind of heat that soothes your back muscles. I didnt find it to be too hot at all. But everyone is different, obviously. If you're the type that likes it really hot, then this is probably not for you.I only plug in one side, that way I can just roll over to the colder side if it gets to be too warm. The only bad thing I can say, so far, is that the controls are terrible. The dial is loose with absolutely no "click" on each numbered setting. Also, the ON/OFF button can be finicky sometimes. It does turn off automatically around 10 hours, maybe longer.

Worth the money
We are very pleased with this mattress cover. I did a lot of research and am happy with the comfort , it is soft and you don’t feel any wires . My husband says he sleeps better as he does not feel as sore. I like the dual controls just wish it would click when adjusting temperatures. All in all very happy.
