U**!
FINALLY I FOUND SOMETHING THAT CRADLES MY NECK AND PERFECTLY SUPPORTS MY HEAD! I LOVE IT.
A miracle has happened today because I actually love this thing! MY STORY: I have always been a back sleeper using NO PILLOW. Then 2 or 3 years ago I started needing more neck support. Now, I find it's substantially more comfortable for me with some kind of a pillow so I tried lots of different feather, feather and down, and 100% down pillows. I tried Tempur, My P\\\ow (H A T E D it even after I sliced it open and removed some of the filling so that it wasn't so puffy but that still didn't help and I still hated it), down alternative (horrible), and on and on. I just have not been able to find a pillow that I love or even like that: A. Doesn't go flat within an hour; B. Doesn't curl up around my head like earmuffs; and C. Supports my neck. Anyhow, I tried creating my own neck support gizmo by cutting a 3" x 6"-ish piece of memory foam from a mattress topper. It was better than nothing but every morning I'd wake up with huge knots in my hair from the stupid piece of foam. I knew there had to be a better solution. Frustrated, I finally started doing some research online to see what's available now since my memory foam/foam rubber idea was just not working any more. I read hundreds of reviews for all kinds of cervical pillows/rolls and decided to try this one. Even though I did my homework, I wasn't holding out hope that this would be my salvation. First of all, when the box arrived, I thought it was empty. It was so light, I didn't think there was anything inside at all, surely not a pillow-type thing, but I opened the box and sure enough - there it was. Hmmm... no weight whatsoever to this thing so how good could it be? Well, ha ha on me because it is great! THE PROS: Nice presentation in the plastic bag and the blue zipper cover. Didn't have any odor or chemical smell that I was expecting, like so many of the other pillows I've bought or read reviews about. The zipper cover or case is not hard or crispy or plastic-like, and it's quite handy and possibly sweat-proof. I'll find out in a month when it gets to be 100° here in L.A. I removed it from the plastic out bag, simply stuck the whole thing inside a pillow case and positioned it comfortably under my neck. It keeps my head at the correct and most ideal height. THE CONS: I have only one: I do have to position it either all the way to the left toward the other side of the bed or all the way to the right (hanging off the bed) because it is too long for me and I don't want it encasing my ears. My solution is that I am going to cut it into either 3 equal pieces (that way I'll end up with 2 replacements for when this one gets flat or old or whatever) or I'll cut it just in half so I'll have one extra for when the first half gets old and flat. Remember, it just has to fit under the neck - it's not like it's a sandbag keeping water from seeping into the house and it is not one of those door jamb sealers. It's for cradling the neck which this does perfectly - it's just too long for me. All in all, I am so happy that I bought this OPTP Original McKenzie Cervical Roll. My neck feels better and better every morning. Can't wait to cut it into 2 or 3 equal pieces so it fits perfectly under my head. Totally happy with this purchase.

Finally a pillow that helps
I have been struggling with neck pain for several years now, and treatment has improved but not resolved it. I have a literal closet full of different pillows to try to position me or cause less pain. I recently had scanning done and my physiologist opined that my main problem was cervical instability. When searching those terms I came across this neck roll. IT WORKED ON NIGHT ONE! I woke up without the achy stiffness at the base of my skull. I use it with a very low profile super squishy memory foam pillow and try, mostly unsuccessfully, to sleep on my back but always end up on my side and it is comfortable enough in all positions. I can’t tell you what a blessing it is to not start every day already in pain.

Simple cervical roll that helps with neck alignment
I’ve been using this cervical roll while sleeping to help keep my neck aligned, and overall it has been a positive experience. It’s a simple foam roll that goes inside your pillowcase and supports the natural curve of your neck rather than replacing your pillow entirely. The support is noticeable, especially when sleeping on my back or side. I wake up with less neck stiffness and less tension compared to using a regular pillow alone. The foam feels supportive without being overly hard, and the removable cover is easy to take off and wash. I’ve also started using it while sitting in my recliner when watching TV, and it works surprisingly well there too. It provides consistent neck support and helps prevent my head from tilting forward or to the side during longer viewing sessions. There is a bit of a learning curve. It took a few nights to figure out the right position, and if you move around a lot in your sleep, it can shift and need adjusting. It also feels very basic in terms of design, so don’t expect anything plush or luxurious. Overall, it’s a straightforward and effective solution for both sleeping and sitting. It’s not perfect, but it does what it’s designed to do and has made a real difference for me, which earns it four stars.

Too Big and Hard for My Neck
I've been using McKenzie cervical rolls for over 40 years. It was a great product until they decided to discontinue the 3-inch size. I purchased the 3.5 inch size several months ago out of desperation, but I just can't use it. It's too big and too firm for me. I wake up with neck pain that goes up into my head and the side of my jaw, and am also dizzy upon rising, which makes me wonder if it's pressing too hard on the artery in my neck. After giving it several tries I finally gave up. What a shame they can't keep making both sizes. My old 3 inch ones lasted for years, gave me perfect support and were not as hard as this new 3.5 inch one. I really wish they'd bring the 3 inch size and firmness of the old ones back for those of us who need it.

Cheap foam ruins good concept.
I've had problems with my neck for years from old sports injuries and a car accident. Over the last two decades I've spent tens of thousands on physical therapy and hundreds if not thousands of hours doing exercises and stretches in order to maintain an active lifestyle. Over those years I've also tried just about every kind of pillow imaginable. But nothing has worked as well as just putting a McKenzie Cervical Roll inside a normal, cheap pillow that has enough firmness so the foam roll doesn't get swallowed up. It's simple: with them I sleep better and wake without neck pain, without I wake with pain. For that reason, over the last 20 years or so I've owned quite a few. The concept is simple. It's a cylindrical piece of foam that fills and supports the hollow of the neck so you sleep in a more ergonomically correct position. Pretty basic principle and one that I would have thought would be hard to screw up. But this one is definitely inferior to all of the others I've owned. The reason? The foam in this one has very poor memory (compresses and stays compressed), so it quickly lost its shape. Loose the shape, loose the support, neck pain ensues. All the others I've owned have lasted years and kept their shape, but within the first week this one started to significantly flatten out. After a month, it's pretty much useless. Maybe they got a bad lot of material, maybe they switched to a different supplier and there isn't the same quality control. Or maybe this manufacturer is just using cheaper foam to squeeze out a little more profit margin. Seriously...considering the role this plays in my life this is a VERY low cost product. So instead of skimping on quality, I'd much rather pay an extra buck or two for something that actually works and will last for years over something that is shot before the box even hits the recycling heap.

Helping
Spine specialist recommended it. Is helping the pain in my arm! Hadn’t been able to laterally raise my arm above my head the last two years & after a week using this, some nerve flossing exercises & proper body mechanics, I can!

Helps controls cervical pain by keeping your neck in an anatomically correct position while sleeping.
I have really severe chronic neck pain secondary to 2 auto accidents (both whiplash injuries) which later resulted in neck surgery as I got older. I have suffered with chronic neck pain for 30 years. Sleeping at night is difficult because I will have severe neck pain if my neck is not in an anatomically correct position while I am sleeping. If I happen to deviate from the correct position during the night then I will wake up with severe neck pain & muscles spasms that will continue throughout the next day. This cervical roll was recommended to me after the second injury by my physical therapist. It has been a life saver as far as helping to control my neck pain. I am now on sixth cervical roll. You need to replace them every 1-3 years as the foam will soften up over time & not give adequate support. You place it inside your pillowcase on top of a SOFT (extremely important that it be a soft fluffy pillow) in a position that it be at the base of your neck when you lay your head on the pillow. You will know when you have it in the correct position as it will be comfortable with no strain on your cervical muscles. It will work for side or back sleepers. It keeps me for curving my neck (I am a side sleeper) while I am sleeping. I will not wake up with neck pain from sleeping in an incorrect position as long as I use this cervical roll. I was starting to wake up with severe neck pain that lasted throughout the day before I realized that I needed to purchase a new roll. My morning neck pain was gone after sleeping on the new cervical roll the first night. Sleeping & sitting in the correct positions will help control your neck pain better than anything else you can do in my opinion. Of course you also have to use good body mechanics when performing tasks & no heavy lifting.

Good product for sidesleepers
I liked the fact this roll fits comfortably under the neck at night to support it so the head does not tilt during sleep leading to stiff neck and cervical disc pain. As a person who sleeps on their side at night I was susceptible to this difficulty without knowing it till I read about the problem and found this roll could help. The product does do what the company says it does and was shipped on time. I would recommend this to fellow side-sleepers like myself who want to alleviate their pain caused by this problem.
