Battle of Britain (Cinebook Recounts)

The Story of Churchill's "THE FEW" !
This is a graphic novel type book with stiff card covers. It covers the Summer 1940 "Battle of Britain" in which the outnumbered British RAF, fighting alone in the skies over England stopped the German attempts to gain air supremacy and be able to invade the British Isles. It's a very well drawn and produced book. Images are colorful and accurate. It is well written in the fact is tells the true story in a very simplified manner in words understandable by anyone of the modern 21st century world, even those with no prior knowledge of the Second World War and the birth and expansion of Fascism. As a retired history teacher as well as aviation historian, I feel this book is ideal for that reason alone! It's not a comic book! There are no over-the-top hero or villain characters...just many of the actual persons from history accurately presented. My only personal complaint is that there is no in depth details on the outcome of some events or issues presented...but, in all honesty...that would be out of the scope of what his book was meant to do. If the reader wants more information, it's up to them to pursue their own investigations! This book is simply meant to perhaps inspire that curiousity in any reader.

Fantastic book!!
This is a fantastic graphic history of the British, German, and later on, American battles in the skies of WWII. It shows the experiences of 3 spesific pilots, one from each country. It shows the British & German campaigns in the Battle of Britain(1940), and then goes on to show the allied bombing campaign against Germany(1943-1945). The only minor problem with the book is the way the pages are laced toghether. In other words, the pages rip VERY easily. But still, the book is exelent.

Great story and art, slipshod workmanship
The binding came apart after a second gentle reading. The story and graphics are great, the paper quality is fine, but the binding is chinsy. It was a real disappointment with what was otherwise a great gift for a 10 year old boy's birthday.

Beautiful Graphic History
In 46 pages, this graphic history concisely summarizes both the Battle of Britain and the Bombing of Germany, with context for both the British and Germans. Additionally, the clear line art provides vivid detail. Simply put, this book is superb.

Four Stars
It was too short and not comprehensive enough.

Fun history lesson
Really good ‘comic’ it’s a very easy way to understand the air war in WW2 covers all the important facts of the air war in a graphical manner.Art work is fantastic, you can tell they use the characters of Biggles, ginger and Algy, but given different names.Comic covers the Battle of Britain, and the work of ‘the few’ it also covers the bomber campaign by the 8th airforce and British bomber command in Part 2 (included)Highly recommend for anyone in to WW2 graphical novels like Commando or Biggles.

Okeypokey
Just to clear it up, as I was not certain when I ordered, this is a book in comic-style. It was also previously released as "Biggles Recounts Battle of Britain".Basically a comic about the Battle of Britain and later air combat in the war, it's interesting so if you like this kind of thing I'd recommend it. The only similar book I've read is Overlord 6th June 1944-Freedom which I would definitely recommend, its much longer and now v. cheap. The only gripe I'd have about this is the short length, not sure if its worth the money as can be read in much less than an hour! Overlord 6th June 1944-Freedom

Our 10 year old son loved it and has read it many times
Historically correct and well drawn and written. Our 10 year old son loved it and has read it many times. You'd say that could be expected from a graphic novel. Too bad it totally fell apart after one reading. It looks awful now because of the tape and staples we put in to keep it somewhat together. It has kept me from buying it as gifts for other boys our son's age.
