joe O'Leary was great at explaining things in an easy to follow and understand way.
I read this book the same day I got it cover to cover. it has lots of great ideas and tips and tricks of the trade of bushmanshipi am ex-army, and grew up as a scout. I highly recommend this book to any of us who wish to stay alive in the field. It is a great addition to my existing skills. Thank you so much Joe.

Covers a lot.
Great coverage on layering clothes, best materials to wear, and great descriptions of all survival techniques. A lot of things that were so easy and I never would have thought of them to stay alive. Great book.

A good read, written by someone who loves the woods
Is this the best and most comprehensive survival book in the world? No. But what it is is a very good starter (one of the best I have read). It is not written by someone claiming to be an SAS god or an overcommercialised TV personality (who use ghost writers anyhow). This is a book written by someone real, honest and humble and who - above all - just loves the woods and nature. This respect and admiration for our natural surroundings comes to live in every page and this is what makes this book so much pleasure to read. At times I wished for that extra layer of detail ... stopping at sentences such as 'and you could also make this from that' but not really explaining how leaves you wanting for more. It would be great if Joe wrote another book for the intermediary. All in all, one of my favourite survival guides (and I have read a lot of them) because it is so practical, down to earth and it works! The drawings are clear, much more so than some (TV channel sponsored) books with a lot of 'fashion photography' and 'product placement! This is as real as it gets. No nonsense, no commercialisation and a fun and funny read by a good writer.

Wilderness Survival Guide
This book is excellent with a wry sense of humour thrown in for good measure. The structure as a manual is clear, logical and concise. Evidently lots of experience has been distilled into c300 pages of well written dummy through to expert guidance.I met some of his school tutors at the Bushcraft show and they were just as well informed and operated with the same humorous deft skill displayed by Joe in his book.Read it, practice & practice again in a "safe-space", review then go out and do it for real.I would give every Scout/Explorer (maybe even Cub) a copy and know they'd have a better chance of having a safe, warm, dry, well nourished & watered camp.

Good book
This is a good book for amateur bushcrafting, it's easy to understand and has drawings to help show how to do things. Some photos would've been better in my opinion. Showed me some things I didn't know so I'm happy.

The wilderness survival guide.
I was looking at survival courses to go on and found one and one of the instructors, Joe O'Leary wrote a book. I looked at the feedback and it seemed really well so I ordered it. Glad I did as it covers a lot in easy to read the writing. some of the chapters are the basic, fire, shelter and cutting tools like you see in most books like this. What to take with you, how to pack a bag, trapping, outdoor cooking and crafts are a nice touch. the pictures are drawings but good enough to get the idea of what they are describing. Overall if you are into bushcraft, survival or prepping it's a good book to read.
