Superior Product.....
I had seen the familiar Bag Balm container in drug stores for years before finally buying some. I decided to purchase it after seeing an article about it in the local paper here. It spoke of its history and its superior moisturizing and protective qualities, and, though it was originally designed for use on livestock, it has become extremely popular with people. Like a lot of other folks, I sometimes suffer from dry skin. Especially in the winter time when the air is cold and dry. And when I am out on a hike and my skin is exposed to dry wintry blasts of air continually. A visit to the drug store aisle to check out skin conditioners will serve to enlighten one that they are certainly not alone. There are tons of every kind of skin conditioner one can imagine. All conditioners, or balms, seem to work well at first. They moisten and condition the skin effectively enough. However, the real test comes over time in the hopes that it will well stay that way for a while. That is where this Bag Balm (BB) goes to the head of the class over all others. If you have never seen or used BB before, you may at first be put of by its consistency, which will remind one of a thinner version of Vaseline. Although it is a little thick and gooey like Vaseline, it does not stay in that state for long once it is spread on the skin. It feels at first rather slimy, but quickly dries and forms a very effective coating on the skin. Though you can feel it on your skin for hours after application, it neither feels tacky nor sticks to your clothing. And it is nothing less than superior in its moisturizing properties. Even the driest skin will not see BB just disappear and be in need of another application in just a couple of hours like so many other lotions. Personally I apply it once a day when needed and just forget about it until the next. It is by far the best moisturizing ointment I have ever used anywhere. I have to stop a little short in recommending someone smear BB all over ones arms and legs like a lot of women do with other lotions. Especially if your going to be out and about. It can be used that way of course, but its thickness and consistency may prove to be a little much in that respect. That doesn't mean that some folks may not find its feel all that much to bear up under and use it as an overall lotion. However personally I feel better recommending it for dry patches, and other kinds of skin abrasions. For such use there is absolutely nothing better that I have ever experienced. I routinely spread some on my face when hiking and have never gotten wind burned or suffered dry skin no matter how long I am out there. In conclusion, the "medicinal" scent that other reviewers here have mentioned is barely noticeable to me, and quickly disappears after application in any event. I would have to say that Bag Balm has less fragrance to it than any other lotion that has a scent at all. Also, I am far from being put off by this products original purpose being for use on cattle and other livestock. It has been used far too long by people to be referred to strictly as a veterinary product that has made the crossover. It's my recommendation that if you suffer from relentless dry skin that you don't let its original purpose matter to you either. It is certainly not the first product that was originally created with another use in mind, that eventually was found to have a further benefit in some other area. My experience with Bag Balm is that it works so well on dry skin that it eventually puts itself out of business. That is to say, the dry patches just eventually just stop appearing and you can slack off on its use for quite some time. So unless you live in Death Valley, this 10 oz can of balm should last you a year or more. Its the very best at doing what it is supposed to do, and I highly recommend it...

Primarly a skin moisturizer but has healing properties.
Although this product is used primarily to treat teats on cows, I remember my mom using this ointment to treat insect bites, dry skin, scuffs and bruises, etc. It has a texture similar to vaseline but I prefer this product over vaseline.

Miracle stuff for dry skin
"Moisturize" is not a strong enough word. I have been using Bag Balm for decades. The scent is a little medicinal, but it works like nothing else to radically moisturize my life-long chronically dry feet and hands. I put it on at night and sleep in it. It doesn't bother my (cotton) sheets even when I put it on my legs and arms in the winter. Now that I'm older I sometimes use it on my face, neck and chest overnight too. Keeps my nails and cuticles healthy, and takes care of chapped lips too. A little goes a long way, so it lasts a long time. (If I get a bad hangnail or cut I might use/add Neosporin, but Bag Balm is much more affordable for everyday use.)I gave some to a friend going through an especially drying course of chemotherapy. His oncologist was amazed, and said he had never seen anything work like this. His wife asked me for a tin of it too when he refused to share it with her.It was originally formulated for dairy cows whose udders would get chapped from milking. My dairy farmer grandfather used it religiously on the cows and his own hands to keep the skin soft, supple, and healthy. Mom said it is "turpilated" (sp?) petroleum jelly. I don't know what "turpilated" is, but it matters to the product's effectiveness as a healing agent (plain petroleum jelly is NOT enough.)

A Greasy Miracle for Dry Skin and Paws!
If you're looking for a heavy-duty solution to seriously dry skin, Bag Balm Ointment is your new best friend. This stuff is like a waxy, gooey hug for parched, cracked skin. Yes, it feels a bit gross at first, but trust me, it's worth it!Pros:- Works wonders on extremely dry skin- Great for healing cracked, dry areas- Can be used on both humans and furry friendsCons:- Waxy consistency can melt in high temperatures during shipping- Greasy and gooey feeling may not be for everyoneWe've used Bag Balm before, and while it has its pros and cons, it's a go-to for those tough dry spots. Just keep in mind that due to its waxy nature, it can melt if your shipping address is in a hot climate.I personally prefer using it on our dogs' dry, cracked noses and paws. It works like a charm! Just be sure to check for any open wounds before applying, as it's not meant for those situations.Overall, if you can get past the initial greasy feeling, Bag Balm Ointment is a true lifesaver for seriously dry skin. Your skin (and your pup's paws) will thank you!
