Excellent cookbook with relatively quick and easy recipes!
Whether you’re an accomplished cook or someone with more modest skills, Hometown Flavors is a great introduction to Vietnamese cuisine! I particularly enjoyed learning about the author’s family history and connection to the cuisine. All the recipes are very easy to follow, and the history blurbs for each dish are not only educational but also great topic of conversation for dinner parties. I cannot wait to try all the recipes in this book!I would recommend this cookbook for working professionals who are looking to effectively expand their culinary skills and depth.

Amazing recipes rich in culture and history
Amazing recipes rich in culture and history. Highly recommended for those that love Vietnamese food!I'm still making my way through all of the recipes in the book, but have thoroughly enjoyed following the recipes along, creating tasty Vietnamese dishes, such as flavorful Pho and fresh spring rolls! This was my first time making Pho and I was a little intimidated, but the recipes were simple, clear, and easy to do! My first homemade pho tasted AMAZING! I can't wait to learn more recipes! What I particularly like about this book is that the author has a strong connection to her grandmother, and the voice and history behind the author's Vietnamese heritage and homestyle cooking really stand out. In addition to learning recipes, this cookbook has concise blurbs that teach you the history behind each dish. I've always found it interesting to learn how dishes were developed and the hidden meaning behind each.Whether you're a foodie that loves Vietnamese food or an adventurous amateur cook looking to try something new, I highly recommend this cookbook! By far the best Vietnamese cookbook I've seen in the market today.

Nice Work Vi!
Already tried two dishes and loved it! Not knowing how to read Vietnamese, I was never able to dissect my grandma's recipe. Hometown:flavors definitely gave me a sense of home because it was easy to follow through and got me to cook some of my favorite dishes. I'll never be homesick anymore thanks to this wonderful Vietnamese cooking book!

A book as good to share as the food you'll make
A grandmother's recipe is a special thing. It may come as no surprise then that this book is a special book. Each recipe provides detailed and clear guidelines, making food that may have once seemed foreign or inaccessible, as intimate and easy. For those who desire it, the book goes further, tying in the rich diversity of the food to both the complex history of Vietnam as well as the author's own connections to the dishes. It is abundantly clear that the dishes come from a loving place, a tangible link between generations. I imagine the author's grandmother made these dishes to be shared. She must be proud. Her granddaughter has created a fantastic book to share with the world the food and the intimate moments they create.

Incredibly Practical, Easy-to-Read, and Fun!
Great recipe book! I'm not Vietnamese, but I sure could've fooled my dinner guests. I've made the spring rolls, chicken curry, Vietnamese coffee ice cream, and coconut tarts so far and they were all pretty good. Especially recommend chicken curry - easy to make and a big crowd-pleaser. Overall, I'd recommend this book for anyone looking to learn simple, delicious Vietnamese recipes!

Excellent, personalized recipes from Grandma's table
Vi's book is simple, straightforward and helps one get to the complex flavors of Vietnamese cooking without feeling intimidated by the uniqueness of the cuisine. I love her introduction to each recipe as well as the way she breaks down the ingredients and instructions. Her recipes come from Grandma's table. I'm excited to try them all!

Quality Vietnamese Recipes!
Coming from someone with virtually no Vietnamese cooking experience (I am Hungarian by ancestry), these recipes are easy to follow, contain the requisite information, and just concise enough. I made one of the quick ones already, and am looking forward to making more in the future!

Also nur amerikanische Einheiten. Die Rezepte sind unpräzise (wenn man z.B. einfach nur „Pfeffer“ schreibt, weiss niemand ob schwarzer oder weisser gemeint ist, zum Teil fehlen Zeitabgaben, usw.). Für ernsthaftes Kochen nicht zu gebrauchen.Edit: Auch ein Index bzw. Register fehlt komplett.
