Perfect for a Cat's Scratching Post
EDIT Since reviewing this product in 2017, I have now needed to replace the sisal on Alfie's scratching post. It is now 2021 and the sisal lasted for 4 years with a cat scratching it every day. Not bad, huh?2017 review - Several years ago a friend bought my cat a jumbo cat scratching post. The sisal lasted a few years and then I pulled it off and wound it back on, repositioning it and sticking it back on the post with PVA glue. Alfie, my Ragdoll cat, has done a fine job of sharpening his nails and ripping the sisal to shreds this time, so time for a repair job. I measured the circumference of the scratcher, calculated how many times I would have to wind around it for it to cover a depth of 1 inch, and did the maths. I bought too much rather than too little. The 6mm sisal was one complete length with o joins.Today I ripped off the old sisal, rough sandpapered the old glue and started to wind the sisal, starting at the base, pushing down and pulling tight as I went along. I put the PVA glue on all the way around the post, in sections so that it wasn't drying before I reached that point. I secured the bottom end and top with tacks.By doing it myself, I saved nearly £20. A new post would have cost about £37.

Value for money
Rope fantastic to replace old rope that was more shredded bits after cat finished with it. Good Quality. Bought plenty as no doubt will be replacing again. Cat uses it all the time and loves a good stretch and scratch. Good idea not to have cat watching as you replace old rope! She helpfully unwound new rope then pulled of cylinder before fixed in place. Hence job took twice as long, but I won! (Not the cats opinion!) She actually hangs off the pod as well. This is the sisal rope to buy.

STRONG ROPE
RECEIVED MY ROPE 13-3 -20 ( FRIDAY ) THO EXPECTED ON MONDAY 16th. AS OTHER PEOPLE HAVE SAID THE ROPE DOES SMELL BUT NOT TO BAD ?. SHOULD BE ENOUGH TO DO MY 4 SCRATCH POSTS, SO WELL BETER THAN BUYING NEW POSTS EVERY TIME. BY THE FEEL IT'S A GOOD STRONG ROPE SO AS IT LASTS A LONG TIME. DEPENDS ON HOW MANY YOU HAVE BUT THE PRICE IS GOOD. I'LL UP DATE WHEN POSTS HAVE BEEN USED A WHILE AS CATS CAN RUIN THINGS REAL QUICK WITH THEIR CLAWS ?.

Initially good but now issues
Seemingly good rope, delivered quickly. I have used this to make a giant cat scratching post but unfortunately a couple of weeks after making it, the rope has started to smell of tar - a quite pungent and strong odour. I had hoped as it said it was untreated rope that this would be free of chemicals but I’m starting to wonder otherwise. I’ve used sisal before to fix scratching posts and haven’t come across this issue before. It’s a real shame but it’s likely the cats new toy will be destined for the bin.

Possible cat proof cord
My cat has shredded bought scratchers so this cord was used to replace the shreds left and so far is intact. It may be a bit hard on his paws but he is happy to use it.
