Two great and often-overlooked
Two great and often-overlooked, early 70s transition-period Savoy Lps ~ 'Lion's Share' is the '72 follow-up to the stunning 'Hellbound Train' Lp, though marks somewhat of a return to the earlier style of works such as 'A Step Further'. 'Jack the Toad' follows suit in solid fashion, and both titles serve as testament to the Savoy legacy, with Kim Simmonds carrying the blue torch proudly through continuing lineup changes. Savoy Brown can do no wrong, and fans should agree these titles are well worth owning. BGO does a fine remastering job as always, free of the kind of heavy-handed mastering that has ruined so many other reissue projects on different labels. Five-Stars all around for quality.

This is a great collection
Many years ago I stopped listening to Savoy Brown because my music interests changed. I made a mistake. I really should have kept buying Savoy Brown LPs. I didn't buy it back then but, I'm glad I bought it now. This and other I have bought have renewed my interests in Savoy Brown. Highly recommend.

Jack The Toad-A Masterpiece!
Lion's Share was the last album that featured Dave Walker on vocals; his departure, and the arrival of Jackie Lynton on vocals, radically changed the sound and direction of Savoy Brown. They went from a somewhat laid back blues-rock to a blues-rock-party-pub band, that the enthusiasm just sprang from the grooves of Jack The Toad. One of the greatest albums by Savoy Brown; unfortunately, like the band itself, it was ignored by mass radio and most have never had the pleasure of the great songwriting, singing and music contained on this disc! Jack The Toad, along with Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" and Led Zeppelin's "Houses of the Holy" made the summer of 1973 a very magical one that will never be repeated!

Memories from My past
It seems like I had been waiting forever to get a copy of Savoy Brown - Jack the Toad on cd at a reasonable price. Every time I looked the prices they were unreal Then this double cd of Jack the Toad/Lions Share appeared so I snatched it up. What was scarey was when I popped the disk into the player I remembered every lyric and the music transported me back to the 70's when I played it all the time cruising around town. I had always loved the album It is definately a great album

Glad to find these again
I had these years ago on vinyl, but eventually sold all of my LP's. When I recently started collecting SB records through iTunes, I noticed that these were not available, so I found this combo set through Amazon. All I can say is, these are great recordings by the best British blues and boogie band ever. I have purchased 18 of their recordings so far and am enjoying the heck out them. They are the best.

A Good One, A Bad One
These 2 Lp's are a good example of what's right and wrong with SB. Lion's Share is the last gasp of their classic Mark II lineup. "Second Try" and "Denim Demon" rank among their greatest songs. The playing is tight and loose at the same time. Then Dave Walker left and the band got Jackie Lynton, one of the worst moves of their entire career. (He must have worked cheap) Not only were his vocals weak, the songs he contributed were bad. Kim Simmonds probably should have quit for a while, but he got pulled back in by his brother/manager for the Boogie Brothers period. That review will follow shortly. Meanwhile, Lions Share is definitely worth buying in this configuration. BGO is to be commended for their policy of banding two Lp's together and not choosing one big seller and on poor one.......
