## Description

Brand new 95-125 PSI air compressor pressure switch or known as a pressure control valve. This switch has four ports on the bottom, one for air inlet hook up and the other three ports are usually used for a relief valve, gauges, or extra air outlets. These four ports are all 1/4" female NPT. This switch is also equipped with a on and off lever and a unloader valve on the side, which is 1/4" compression, if the unloader is not needed it does not need to be hooked up.

Review: How to modify this switch to make an exact replacement for your Craftsman 2HP compressor from the mid '80s - Replacing your pressure switch on your 30 year old Craftsman 2HP compressor? This is the perfect part, but you need to do some modifications, and you must be comfortable with electrical and mechanical work. If you are not, don't bother doing this. First of all, dis-assembly of the new part - of course - voids all warranty, and you assume any and all risks, hazards, and dangers associated with your modifications. REALLY!!! I didn't want to re-plumb all the tubing on my compressor - this switch was functionally the same, but not a physical replacement. It takes about two hours to rebuild just the switch. Disassemble the new and old switch completely. Keep the parts separated. The switch assembly is spring-loaded and pops apart like a strong mouse trap - caution is advised. You should study the assembly as much as possible before taking it apart to make sure you understand how the two moving parts interact. The only thing I needed from the old switch was the threaded mounting plate and the actual original switch lever, although I used the plastic wire grommets with the original power cord and motor cord. The trick is to assemble the switch with the hysteresis spring disconnected from the front hook, and be sure both calibration screws are backed out all the way to start. Once it is all re-assembled, you need to grab the spring and hook it over the front hook. I used thick nylon string to pull it out and hook it - very difficult, very frustrating, but worth the effort because you'll have a perfect switch. I disconnected the wire pigtail from the motor and pre-wired the switch with the pigtail and the power cord. My re-assembly sequence was cast output tubing, regulator and gauge assembly, switch assembly with cords attached, three pre-bent tubes, high-pressure release, motor, and belt. I used white tape on all pipe threads. Once I started it I calibrated the high-pressure shut-off to 125 psi, and calibrated the re-start pressure to 90 psi. The specific directions for calibrating is inside the new switch cover. I used my existing compressor gauges for calibration of the switch, and it took about an hour to tweak the calibration to exactly what I wanted. All in all this was about a eight-hour job, but I got to totally clean the compressor, replace the oil with synthetic, and now I have a new switch. I bet the compressor will last another 30 years for me. If the new switch fails, I do know how to replace it easily! Good luck - remember, before you order this switch, you must be very patient in addition to being comfortable with dis-assembly and re-assembly of electro-mechanical devices. It is easy to give up but worth the effort to succeed! I didn't want to buy a new compressor!
Review: works - perfect fit, easy change, well made and functions as should

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Will this unit work with a Campbell Hausfeld Model WL600701**
A: Jim - The universal pressure switch will work on any compressor whose tank has a two wire motor connection, male 1/4 pipe thread tank fitting, and unloader connection to the compressor. It starts the compressor at around 90 psi. and shuts off at about 125 - 130 psi. Hope this helps. :)

**Q: can it run on 240 volts?**
A: Hopefully I can help clear up the confusion on 120 vs 240 volts here. This pressure switch is a purely mechanical device, and should work just fine for 120 or 240 volt, like almost any other electric air compressor pressure switch. For 120 volt operation, you will wire line and neutral from the cord/breaker box/power source to the two terminals, and the load terminals will go to your motor. For 240 volt operation, you will instead wire L1 and L2 (two hot leads from a double pole breaker in a standard US 120/240 volt split phase panel) to the two line terminals on the pressure switch, and the two load terminals will be wired to your motor, OR to your magnetic motor starter in the case your motor is very large and/or not thermally protected.
In response to the other individual who brought up amp draw, be aware that using 240 volt to power a motor that can be used at 120 or 240 volts will actually use *half* the amperage that would be otherwise be required at 120, and is one of the primary reasons for using 240 volts to power demanding appliances like air compressors. For example a 2 HP air compressor will take about 15 amps at 120 volts, or 7.5 amps at 240 volts. This means you can use higher gauge (smaller/thinner) cables, which costs less and ensures less of a voltage drop at the load.

**Note that you will need to change the wiring of the motor if you are attempting to convert a 120 volt air compressor to 240 volt, and that not all motors are designed for this. The motor itself should have a low voltage and high voltage wiring diagram on the label of the motor (or in the instructions) which tells you how to wire the motor for either 120 or 240 volts, in this case**

In conclusion, yes, any purely mechanical double-pole contactor or pressure switch can probably be used for either 120 or 240 volt, *assuming the connected load is designed for the voltage you are using*.

An example of a switch NOT designed for 240 volts in the US/on a split phase system, is a one-pole switch or contactor, think of a typical light switch. This is because in the US, each hot lead has a voltage differential of 120 volts to ground, or 240 volts line to line. Therefore you must disconnect both hot leads from the load to truly isolate power from any given load.

**Q: will this switch work on a central pneumatic 21 gal. 2 1/2 hp compressor from harbor freight?**
A: As long as your unloaded line is facing the same direction and your compressor is rated for the same psi, it should work. I am assuming that your compressor is 110v and single phase for home use. It worked great on a 30 gallon compressor I have. Still waiting to fix my 60 gallon one.

**Q: No wiring diagram. Can someone tell me which screw heads the "hot"/black wires go to? Thanks.**
A: it says motor and wire on the switch body

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ works well, but need to adapt
*by M***B on December 7, 2022*

could not fine a pressure switch for my compressor, that was exactly the same as the 27 yr old one. However, this one works well, and is well priced. beware, you need extra part.s why the unloader connection is on the front is beyond me.....mine was on the back SO....you need 1/4" npt plugs to fill extra holes You need 1/4" npt coupler to mount to compressor manifold You need longer unloader tube most likely you need conduit clamps to secure wiring to switch box holes on side you may need to change from spade terminals to U or ring terminals on your wires all in all, the switch was $16, and I needed $40 parts to make it work . But it seems to be well made switch. I like that if the cover is removed, there is a reset you can push to enable it to restart if its in the 90-125 psig range after cutting off...handy for setting the cutouts instead of having to bleed air off or such to get it to restart again. The cutouts seem to be set well though.
