It's been a long time
I just happened across this as a suggested read, and I decided to read it for the second time in my life. I read it initially when I was in high school. I am so glad I revisited this book. This is a classic for sure. A look back to a time when being colored was not always pleasant. But for Celie and Nettie, their love for each other as sisters, was worth the hardships, even if they weren't able to see each other for so many years. It was amazing to watch Celie become the woman she was meant to be with help from her friend Shug. It is a heartwrenching story of resilience. Highly recommend!

worth the awards it received
While this book is hard to read literary wise, it’s beautifully written. It was nice to have a book truly represent the author and their ethnicity. It sheds a light on a subject I know little about and cannot fathom how one feels in the situation the storyline follows. It’s captivating, based on real world events and 100% worth the literary awards it has received over the years of its release. Everyone should have to read this book at some point in their life.

A novel of intersections
A fascinating exploration of life for a black, queer, woman sojourning through the American South in the interwar period. The book is framed a series of letters or journal entries written initially to God to expiate the emotional trauma of her life. The format allows us as readers a front row seat to our protagonist’s internal monologue as she works through racism, misogyny and poverty to find an uncompromising happiness in her identity. Full of humor, tragedy, love, and inspiration, this is a nuanced view of growth and healing.

Amazing!
I had never read this book and so glad I have now. So much of this was heartbreaking and some very uplifting. Quite a story! I am a Georgia girl, born in 1956. I was blessed that my parents raised us to respect and care for all people. I grew up during the Civil Rights Movement and didn't understand as a child why any persons were treated differently. I am so glad to have read this and want to read more of her books. By the way... I am white. I pray for all people and I honor my parents memory for teaching me that all are God's children.

Amazing!!
The writing style was so unique, kinda caught me off guard when I first started, but I got used to it quickly. I love that it’s in letter format 🥺Celice & Nettie deserve the world. I’m actually really love the ending, and the redemption arch for Mr 🥺I’m excited for the movie!

Beautiful
Once I started this book, I couldn't put it down. Alice Walker did a beautiful job writing this book about Celie's life as a black woman and all that she experiences from love to loss to community and her own spiritual journey. Everyone should read this book.

Absolutely Amazing!
I’ve seen this movie a million times since I was a little girl. And I’m finally reading the book in my late 30’s. The movie does this book absolutely no justice. I loved this story so much. Definitely on my favorites list.

Great Classic
I read this book again after having read it more than 30 years ago as a college student. I enjoyed it more this time than before.

Una ventana al pasado y a las mujeres como hilo conductor.

BEautiful cover
It came on time and the story plot is quite interesting, not something of the ordinary in my opinion. The way Walker writes is quite unconventional, since she doesn't follow a specific or even strict timeline.

Entrou para os favoritos da vida
Nossa! MARAVILHOSO!
