The Bossa Nova Vibe Of Joao Gilberto

Love Bossa Nova?
If you do, this is one of the absolute originals, irresistible. Just fills the room with that gentle summer-evening-on-holiday feel from years ago. Many people have covered many of these songs since (often with English lyrics, e.g. "Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars" - you won't find that title on here but you will find the tune.

great buy, impressed with the quality and price
Thought i'd try this cd because of its low price, and I had previously heard 'Samba da Minha Terra' and liked it a lot. Really happy I did- a great collection of songs which are a pleasure to listen to.Well recommended.

My favourite track...Corcovada
This new compilation by Not Now Music has 36 tracks and has an informative liner note by Helen Akitt. CD1 and CD2 both have recordings from 1958 to 1961. There are 3 Gilberto originals and many Jobim compositions for which he became well known. "Bim Bom" CD1 track 12, is considered the first bossa nova song. It was composed by João Gilberto around 1956. The song wasn't recorded until July 1958 when Gilberto released it on Odeon Records along with his version of the first produced bossa nova song, "Chega de Saudade", which had been released by Elizete Cardoso earlier that year. (CD2 track 17). Gilberto wrote the song on the banks of the São Francisco river as he watched laundresses passing by, balancing loads on their heads. Inspired by the swaying of their steps, Gilberto reproduced their rhythm with "Bim-Bom". Many of the numbers are short in duration and so CD1 runs for approx 41 minutes and CD2 for 36 minutes. The sound quality is very good throughout. A very good deal from Not Now Music.

Amazing collection of Joao's best tracks
Amazing collection of Joao's best tracks. 5* for the music but 3* for the audio quality.Just the about the most lifeless, non dynamic cd in my collection. Such a pity, as the original analogue tapes of these tracks are one of the best recordings EVER. I have different versions of these tracks both in CD and SACD and the quality on those is stunning.I would still recommend it for hard-core fans of Bossa-Nuova like myself. It's worth the few € just for the less well known tracks that are not easily available on other compilations / albums.

Too Good To Be True
This is an extraordinary and wonderful aural delight! From beginning to end it's a treasure. Ddespit its thirty-eight tracks, it's too short!

Joao Gilberto....
50% pleased: 2 cds: one sounds tinny; the other perfect. A lot of tunes for the price. But as mentioned, sound quality is lacking. Otherwise good packaging & prompt delivery.
