Great oil based clays with no odor!
I've used Wed clay, chavant, and others. I love Wed for it's ease but it's high maintenance for ongoing projects. All the other oil based clays I tried have an odor which I couldn't handle, even the sulfur free ones. JMac medium works well for me and when it's cooler deatils hold well but I may try some firm next time. It is a little sticky with tools ( so was chavant) but I really enjoy working with it

Good sculpting clay
While I find it somewhat difficult to create very fine detail, it does work very well for blocking in large volumes relatively quickly. I find that small amounts of the material are easily hand warmed and applied without the use of heat lamps. Colder climates may require an external heating source to make it workable. The color is neutral and makes it fairly easy to see. I did notice a slight color variation from one slab to another. Overall, a very nice medium, but I might try the hard version next time.

Has a nice feel and soft enough for sculpting
I'm using it for small sculpture busts. Has a nice feel and soft enough for sculpting . I might try the harder j- Mac but I like the product.

Good product
I love this clay. I'm very disappointed one of my favorite suppliers is no longer handling this product. What happened?

Excellent quality and ease of use
J-Mac Classic (medium) is very easy to use and works for both large initial layout of a sculpture to the details that follow.

Okay for what it's good for - not good for molding/casting
I sculpt large puppets, which I mold in Ultracal (hard plaster) and cast in latex, and thought I'd try J-Mac as it was slightly less expensive than Roma Plastalina that I'd been using. Because J-Mac is a sulfur-free clay it can be used to cast both latex and silicone (clays with sulfur won't work with silicone), and I thought I'd give myself the silicone option on my latest sculpts.I got the medium firmness clay. It sculpts well (though honestly I think it's a bit soft to be considered a "medium" firmness.) My biggest problem came when it was time to de-mold (remove the clay from the plaster). I don't know if it's because the clay is somewhat softer than what I've used, or some other reason, but removing this clay from the mold is a nightmare. Even when laying on far more separating medium than I'm used to, the clay just sucks onto the gypsum, costing me a lot of time cleaning up the mold. My guess is that because Ultracal gets pretty hot while it's curing that it's actually melting the clay (not a problem with Roma), and therefore the clay is actually leaching into the plaster. At any rate I'll probably wind up donating the remaining clay I bought to a school and going back to Roma, which, for my applications, works much better. I'll do this at least until I can find a good sulfur-free clay that won't cling for dear life to the mold.
