When Mike Ma is not describing the days of rigorous exercise or incessant social functions, the reader can also look to the strands of wisdom that Mike dispenses in small paragraphs and lines throughout the book, borrowing from the philosophic greats when needs be. Very rapidly, Mike cements himself as a dogmatic, intelligent man of principle, making his writing all the more engaging at the same time. Like a man at the summit of a great peak, he takes us through the valley of a schizophrenic society with a fragmentary and intoxicating prose style, shot through with an intensity of both bravado and sincerity. What this book is exactly I cannot articulate accurately, but what I know is that it is something pulsating and alive in a dying, sterile and mad world.
