Succinct and readable explanations of the most significant areas of political philosophy. Provides additional and convenient references for more serious investigation.

This book lays out the history of philosophy in an engaging narrative and even includes sections of major works in the latter half. Enjoyed reading it for a class on the same subject. The rental book I was given was in pretty bad shape though so be aware of that if you decide to rent it.

Great for online class

It's a wonderful textbook, I can't complain about the quality of it, but the e-book formatting frustrated me to no end. First I can't think of a reason why this isn't available for kindle-e-readers, and second the table of contents fails to show over half the book. It covers the first history parts very well, but the essential readings are briefly mentioned, but there's no skip to option. I had no idea how to find the essential readings(which cover half the book!) until I typed one of them into the search bar. The only solution I have is to bookmark the first page if I ever want to go back and forth without a headache. I don't know why it's like this, but really just a lack of oversight on who managed this.

This appears to be an excellent book. However, $205+ is a ridiculous price for any paperback. (I understand the costs of researching, writing, editing, and overall book production - what I'm questioning, here, is the quality of the book itself. Given the relative inexpensiveness of binding, a book that costly should be hardbound, to last longer.) Not that students have a lot of choice - they're a rather captive market.

There was A LOT of writing in this book, I got it used, but man..... who on earth thought writing in the entire book was better than just getting a seperate piece of paper. Sheesh
