Huge increase in speed
I don't normally leave reviews, but thought I should after experience with this socket. I cannot believe the difference this socket made, it as increased the connection speed by 10mb, taking it from 25mb to 35mb. I thought it might give maybe 1 or 2mb, but was very pleasantly surprised. It clearly won't do the same for every connection, but it's definitely worth a go especially if you have an old master socket

Easy to fit
Old faceplate losing internet speed as faulty. Took old faceplate apart making sure noted what colour wires (2 - I have fibre broadband but if you have older wiring you may have different wiring) went where (A or B slot). Trimmed wires to get fresh wire (leaving on insulation). Open wire holder on new inner section faceplate. Slotted in wires in A or B slots and pressed wire holder down - now quickly and easily connected. Screwed faceplate onto existing backplate and all is done. (Optional - used broadband filter (usually sent by internet providers with routers) to connect router to phone slot on inner face faceplate. Checked broad band speed.) Clicked on outer new faceplate section. Connected router wire directly to internet plug on outer faceplate. Checked broadband speed and speed increased over old faceplate and inner and outer faceplate readings now match. 10-20 min change time. Sticks out a bit (see product size - 7 cm with a 3 cm existing wall bracket) so keep that in mind if it is likely to get knocked but otherwise smart. Note you will need to have an existing wall bracket already mounted but if replacing an existing faceplate should fit existing one. Must say item arrived within 2-3 working days rather than estimated 1 week so good service.

Neat and easy to install
Took about 5 minutes to install as a replacement for my BT Openreach mk3 socket. The way wires A and B from the line connect is essentially the same as before except that an in-built plastic flap that you push shut forces the unstripped wires into the connectors for you. So no tools and, in lining the wires up for you before closing the flap, very quick and simple. The build quality is OK. It does look like the manufacturing cost is very likely lower than earlier versions. However, I don't think this actually compromises cosmetics or functionality. On line speed, some here claim increases whilst others note no improvements over previous adsl filters. If you have no extension sockets, I think it is unlikely that an inbuilt adsl filter would be any different to an external one; most are exactly the same circuit which is a simple low-pass filter comprised of chokes and capacitors. However, two things worth noting:1) Those seeing an improvement have probably been previously using an old, degraded filter. 2) Some of the external filters are incredibly cheap and manufactured by companies you've never heard of. The quality of components may be questionable and components, especially electrolytic capacitors, may degrade quickly. For a large business like BT Openworld, it is not in their interests to install sockets sourced from poor quality components.I didn't see an improvement in line speed but my mk3 socket was about 6 years old, had experienced a lightning strike and probably its days were numbered!I think these mk4 sockets are fine and I have experienced no problems at all with the plastic clips that firmly hold the faceplate in place. I do wander how many times those complaining about the clips have removed and refitted the faceplate in order to wear the clips out!

Good quality
Sturdy plastic used not flimsy keeps a good connection of cables coming in and out of it comes with all the parts unlike the other one I purchased before this

Saved a LOAD of money!
I had this type of socket installed in the house I bought in 2017. I had internet speed to the maximum advertised at the time, so that was great, but the drop-outs of internet were not good at all. Every couple of hours, the WiFi would stop, so I videoed the router and when the WiFi dropped, I found out that the router internet connection light went from white, to red. This was not a WiFi issue, it was a connection issue. My ISP offered to sort this out with an engineer for lots & lots of money. I took a chance on this and it fixed it for a tiny fraction of the cost of an engineer. In my case, I just slid off the face plate and popped in the new one, I left the back part that is screwed to the wall, screwed to the wall, not even a screwdriver required in my case.Very please indeed. Here is some irony, on the day I fix this for my FTTC line running at 76Mbits/sec, I get a letter from the local cable supplier, saying they have just installed cable in my street and are offering 900Mbits/sec with FTTP!

Recomended by BT engineer
The BT engineer who came to fix a fault on our landline also commented on our slow computer and recommended us to buy this to upgrade out inlet socket, enabling us to do away with the separate filters on each line, one of which had failed. It has worked splendidly.
