On To Book 4
Really enjoying these time travel books. It’s nice they are not a continuation from the last even though some of the characters are the same , each introduces a new story. All so far have been good reads.

Great Storyline
I loved this book, among many of the Celtic Brooch series, books. I loved reading about the Civil War, and President Lincoln. I’m also glad that Charlotte got her Happily Ever After Ending!

Time Travel with an Historical Twist
Charlotte Mallory is a well-respected surgeon in Richmond, Virginia. Her brother Jack is a successful author. The Mallory name has been a part of Virginia's history for about two hundred years. And while Jack is holed up in his office writing his next bestseller, Charlotte is honoring the Mallory name as she's done for the past twenty years by taking part in the annual recreation of the Battle of Cedar Creek. We first meet Charlotte dressed in her Civil War uniform and wearing a beard - she is the living embodiment of her great-great-grandfather Carlton Jackson Mallory who was a surgeon attending the wounded at Cedar Creek during the war. Please note that to Southerners it is not called the Civil War - it was, and remains, the War of Northern Aggression. On her way to the re-enactment Charlotte takes a moment to sort through her mail before leaving her car and opens a small box sent to her by a law firm in Scotland. Inside she finds a beautiful vintage sapphire brooch. She tinkers with it and opens the secret compartment to reveal some old Celtic writing. As she reads the words aloud she is enveloped in a mist and finds herself back on the battlefield of Cedar Creek but the year is now 1863. With live bullets whizzing around her head she runs for cover. What follows, dear reader, is a most astounding, vivid, action packed historical story that will keep you turning pages until the very end. Oh, and don't forget the romance that holds the entire story together.I can't find the right words to praise the writing of Katherine Lowry Logan and I won't bore you with a litany of words. I will urge you to pick up The Sapphire Brooch and read it for yourself. Our heroine Charlotte and the man whose life she saves, Braham, are wonderfully complex characters that will have your rooting for them when you're not trying to shake some sense into them. A full cast of characters including President Lincoln and his staff populate the book and bring the era of the Civil War to life. For me, the icing on this slice of history, is the reappearance of ElliottFraser who first made his appearance in The Last MacKlenna (you'll recall from my review of that book that I consider Elliott the new Rhett Butler). All of Ms. Logan's books are rich in description, place setting and action. Don't miss any of them! I look forward to The Emerald Brooch. For a last bit of praise I will say I would rate this book more than five stars. Katherine: When I grow up I want to write like you!

Each Celtic Brooch Book Just Gets Better!
"The Sapphire Brooch" is book three in the Celtic Brooch Series and they just keep getting better. Charlotte Mallory, a surgeon who spends her her spare time participating in Civil war reenactments is transported to the actual battle of cedar creek after she reads the inscription on the brooch. She winds up working on wounded men on the battlefield, is later captured by Union solders, and meets President Lincoln. Eventually she finds Brahm who is dying so she uses the brooch to take him home for lifesaving medical treatment. But Brahm isn't just any man. He appeared briefly in the first book. His best friend married Kit who grew up in current times. He knows about the brooches and what they can do. He is also highly intelligent, well educated, and remembers everything he has ever read. Brahm is also loyal and stubbern to the extreme. What follows is hillarious. He becomes acclimated to modern times very quickly but cannot accept that the death of Lincoln is long past. He manages to return to the past by using the ruby brooch at the MacKlenna Horse Farm. Eventually Charlotte returns to the past as well to hopefully prevent Brahm from changing history. Her companion is her brother Jack who is an author and knows an opportunity when he sees one. Jack is a trouble magnet and yes he manages to get himself into the worst trouble possible! The clock is ticking as Charlotte, assisted by the MacKlenna family races to save Jack from the gallows! The author obviously did a great deal of research. The descriptions of clothing, everyday life, and behaviors are wonderfully detailed. The description of the burning of Richmond is absolutely fantastic and gives the reader the feeling of being there, running for their life in the streets as the city burns, buildings are falling, and many people run about in a panic demonstrating all manner of crazy behavior. The main characters are well drawn and each have unique personalities. Actual events are well described and famous people of the time are part of the action as well. It is also extremely interesting that despite being in love Brahm and Charlotte almost don't get together! The Celtic Brooch Series are best read in order as each book builds on the last one. Previous books are The Ruby Brooch and The Last MacKlenna.

An unexpected twist
This was such a long book; 100 chapters of varying lengths and it's the only one I've read in the Celtic Brooch series. I must admit I'm not really interested in reading any others and The Sapphire Brooch satisfied me enough.I quite liked Charlotte, especially when she travelled to the time of the Civil War and endured all the horror of conflict. This was very well written and I felt I was there too.I'm not so sure about Braham, who I saw as a middle aged man. I suppose I was thinking of the many photos I've seen of Union officers standing outside army tents puffing on cigars. When Braham came to the 21st century, I didn't find it credible that he could drive five hundred miles with just the manual as his guide. Since it takes a person living in this century, quite a few months to learn to drive, I think it would be highly unlikely for him to be able to operate the controls and judge the traffic conditions on the busy roads of our time. I'd have been more comfortable if he'd caught the train. The other characters in The Sapphire Brooch were numerous; some overlapping from the The Ruby Brooch, but this didn't spoil the narrative for me. In fact I did get to know a lot of what happened in The Ruby Brooch.I'm happy to give this story four stars since there was an unexpected twist that I didn't see coming. Recommended for lovers of time travel stories.

Captivating
A love story with two centuries apart - the horrors of the American Civil War that inadvertently brought them together and separated them, both of them being there when Abe Lincoln was assassinated- this is surely one heck of a tapestry to follow.

Tender time travel romance
Brilliant book about time travel back to the time of the American civil war. Written with great attention to detail and with tender romantic moments. Loved it. I should have read the Ruby brooch first but have now got it and can't wait to start reading it
