They have been excellent for that purpose
I bought these chews for my golden retriever puppy, mostly to calm her in her crate and give her something to do. They have been excellent for that purpose, but I'm thrilled to report that they've also done wonders for my older golden's teeth. He's only three years old, but he has too much tartar for his age. I brush his teeth frequently and I've used all kinds of gels and water additives to try to keep his teeth healthy, but nothing has ever made a significant difference until now. He's been chewing these for less than a month now and the tartar reduction is honestly incredible. Obviously some is still there, you can't expect a rawhide chew to accomplish what a professional cleaning would. But who knows? Maybe in another month I will be proven wrong. I expect to be repurchasing these for as long as they still produce them. I'm thrilled they've made such a difference in my dog's teeth, but even without that they're still high quality chews. They're nice and large, they don't fall apart immediately, they don't break up into tiny pieces to be swallowed, my dogs don't seem to have trouble digesting them. These are more expensive than the cheap bag of rawhides you'll find at a regular store but you get what you pay for here.

Excellent product!!!
I love this product. More importantly my dog loves it. He is definitely a chewer so this helps his teeth, he loves the taste, and it satifies his urge to chew. As with any product..please know your dog. If your dog does not chew this product and just gulps it down, then it won't be beneficial to his oral care. Also, as with ANY product that can be chewed or ingested, please monitor your pet while they are eating/chewing this product. Overall this is a great product, I will continue to order it for my dog. This product does not replace routine dental care, but it is part of a dental care routine. The reason I sound so "informercial" is becasue I actually work in the animal care field. The practice that I used to work for stopped carrying this brand and switched to a cheaper brand. ICK. I hate it. So now I just go online to find the real CET chews. Don't accept a poor substitute. Especially those cheap ones sold over the counter in places like Walmart or grocery stores. All rawhide like chews are NOT the same.

My vet highly recommended these chews to help my large labs (70-88 pounds) maintain good dental hygiene. Brushing their teeth even with chicken flavored tooth paste just did not work for us. My dogs really love these chews and jump for joy each morning in anticipation of a chew. The chews have really helped with their teeth. I can even see a difference with whiter teeth and less build up especially towards the back of their mouths. Some of the large size chews are too much for my older lab and she will stop chewing after a few bites (they are too thick). So I buy medium chews for her and select the thinner ones among the large size. The thickness is the problem for her. But I think you should be careful not to give your dog a chew that is too small. My labs will swallow one that is too small very quickly. Always watch your dogs with the chews to be sure they are not having a problem with the chews. My labs like these so much that I was able to give up the expensive rawhides that I had been buying for them. And I really think they help their teeth. There is a premium version of this product which is more expensive and has a strange odor to it. I tried it a few times but much prefer this product. So do my labs!

double duty!
I have a 4yr old 30lb male beagle mix who absolutely LOVES these chews. I had originally bought them for the sole purpose of promoting good dental health, thinking my dog might chew on them if he got bored or if it was the only chew I gave him. You see, he's usually very picky- he won't chew antlers or bones, unflavored rawhide, nylabones, and though he'll lick peanut butter out of a kong, he doesn't do much if I put a treat in there. To my surprise, as soon as my dog smells these chews, he can hardly control himself, he get so excited! They smell a little funky (meaty), but I think that's all part of what makes my dog love these chews. This is great for us, since it means he gets an after-dinner treat he loves, they have helped keep his teeth relatively plaque free, and they help keep his breath from smelling bad. Of course, his mouth doesn't exactly smell like your favorite flower (unless your favorite flower smells like dog breath), but I have noticed that the distance at which I start to smell my dog's stinky dog-breath has shortened significantly, and his breath no longer causes people distress from a distance. Also nice is that these chews last a little while. For my dog, they will keep him occupied for around 15 minutes. This is great compared to the Kong brand fresh breath treats, which my dog chewed through right away, and they did very little for his teeth. To address other reviewers' comments, I should caution that my dog is somewhat small at 30lbs, and he is an incredibly patient chewer (though he will chew for very long periods of time). He will calmly chew his rawhides, etc, until he gets nice small pieces to swallow, and he avoids pieces that are too big to swallow, so these treats present little choking hazard for him. I understand the issue though, and I'd recommend that you treat these like any other thin rawhide squares, which is to say that they are a pretty big hazard for choking or for your dog swallowing large un-chewed pieces (which can cause an upset tummy). As with any rawhide-type treat, you should supervise your dog when you give these to them, especially the first few times. My biggest complaint of these chews is that I think they would last longer and be less of a choking hazard if they came as twists or rolls, instead of flat pieces, since the flat pieces are pretty easy to break. Since too much of a good thing is usually a bad thing, I also try to limit the number of these chews I give to my dog, since they appear to very similar to beef hide, and I don't want to give him too many hide chews. So, I give him one of these every other day, depending on the other treats he has had that day, and I alternate with greenies or other dental-type chews, so he has a variety of chews, but he gets some sort of dental health chew every day.

Absolutely amazing and noticeable change
We got samples of these at the vets office, and I immediately came home and bought more off of Amazon. My older rescue dog has started to get "old man breath," and has that semi permanent stank about his mouth. He lets me brush his teeth, and gets the recommended amount of bones, water enzyme additives, and all of the other good junk that our vet throws at us (that by the way works great for our younger dog), but it just didn't make any sort of dent in Jake's stinky breath - and this broke his heart, because he's one of those dogs that loves to "give kisses." He really liked these, though, and views them as a great treat. They get their "chewys" every morning before I leave for work, and I've noticed a marked change in his breath. It's actually fresh, and his teeth are whiter than I have ever been able to get them with the dog toothbrush and tooth paste. He gets to have his kisses again, and seems happier and healthier overall. Unlike most rawhide type chews, this doesn't upset my boys' sensitive stomachs at all, and keeps them both busy for about 20 minutes while they work through them. As I've got two dogs and give them each one a day, it's roughly $30/month for the supply, but it is TOTALLY worth it.

My Vet Is Impressed
This is the first review I've written here, but I am so happy with this product that I had to write something. My dogs have all been using this product for about a year now, and their teeth have been in great shape ever since. It used to be that every time I took them to the vet, she told me that I needed to be more diligent in brushing their teeth because they had tartar buildup. So I spent hundreds of dollars having their teeth professionally cleaned once a year on her recommendation, but I was still bad about brushing. It's not that I don't want to take care of them, but my dogs are all around 60 lbs and HATE having their teeth brushed. Since I started using this product, I went back for their checkups and the vet was so happy with their teeth and thought I had finally started being good about brushing them. When I told her that I was using this product, she looked it up and is now recommending it to all her clients. 0 tartar or plaque buildup! The best part is that my babies think this is a treat for them, and they get so excited every day when they get their chew. I couldn't ask for a better product. The only thing my vet said is to make sure they don't have more than what's recommended because the enzymes will be bad for them in larger doses, so follow the label. I would give this more stars if I could. Excellent product!

Highly Recommended
I have a golden retriever about 53-55lbs, so she's right near the cut off between the large (26-50lbs) and extra large (51+lbs) chews. I bought the L chews because reviews of the XL seemed a little too big and cost about $10 more than the L. She's been chewing these for a little over a month. Like many retriever owners on here have said, she can go through one chew in about ten minutes. I always stay in the room with her while she eats one because as it gets smaller she'll sometimes try to swallow pieces. As with any chew-toy or treat, supervise your pet. These treats work well with my dog's tummy and digestion and don't seem to aggravate her allergies. I work in the dental field and I'm always looking for effective and safe solutions to pet oral hygiene, not just treats or rinses that cover up dog breath **See below. These are a great addition to my dog's oral care regimen. **PSA- "DOG BREATH" ISN'T NORMAL. I'm not talking about occasional sleepy morning breath, I'm talking about "The Dog Breath Stench" that hits you if they so much as yawn or lick their chops. If you've noticed this with your pet, please visit your Vet, it can be a sign of periodontal disease, a painful and sometimes serious health risk. Just like with humans, chronic periodontal disease is irreversible and can cause tooth loss and systemic problems. Dental chews cannot fix periodontal disease, but professional treatment and home dental care can help manage the progression.

Good for teeth but bad for stomach
These chews did indeed prove good for my dogs' teeth - one of them had severe tarter issues, and its much better now though to be fair, I used a lot of other products (like Greenies, enzymatic toothpaste etc) along with this. This does possess a choking hazard for dogs like labradors who are tempted to swallow food rather than patiently chew them, and must be given these chews only when monitored (as is the case with other chews like bully sticks). But one major issue that I encountered with these chews is that they give a bad gas to my dogs - enough to drive the humans out of the house. Their stool is just fine, its just the extremely foul smelling gas. whenever I stop giving these for 2-3 days, the gas problem goes away, but as soon as I start these again, the problem is back.

Dogs love them
My dogs love these wish they were more widely available in the UK as they ship from USA not rawhide so less harsh on their tummy’s and dissolve if they swallow them as far as I know

Long lasting dental chew
Lasted longer than many other dental chews out there in terms of the time it takes for my dog to finish it, so a winner on that front!

Wrong size.
Love this product but received the medium size not the large as ordered. More trouble than it’s worth to return.

Good cleaner time killer
They are bigger than the samples the vet gave us. Dogs love them and will chew and get flavour off. Lasts a couple to a few days then you can introduce another new piece
