Not easy to read the metric side.
First off, this ruler has the quality you'd expect from Lufkin. The only problem is that the metric scale and the imperial scale both start from the same end. This means that the imperial side comes out of the bottom of the stack, which means it lies flat on the workpiece. Whereas, the metric side comes off the top of the stack, which means that, in order to use it flat, you either have to open the ruler all the way or open it far enough that you can bend it flat against the workpiece.

Great build quality; mediocre accuracy
I love the feel of this thing. When folded, it stays folded. When unfolded, it stays unfolded. This is great for measuring between things with nothing in between them. The sad part is the metric side suffers from both low accuracy and low-ish precision.Low accuracy: the start of the ruler is 11.74mm from the 1cm mark. The first mark is 8.90mm from the 1cm (10mm) mark. This makes it hard to tell where to start measuring since it's some unmarked spot between the end of the ruler and the first line. These measurements were made with a Mitutoyo ABSOLUTE 500-196-20 Digital Caliper. (±0.01mm)Low-ish precision: When compared against a solid meter stick after matching the two rulers' 1cm marks (to correct for the above issue), this ruler measures 999mm at the 1000mm line. 0.1% accuracy may be fine, just be aware that the measurements with this ruler at full length may vary by ±2mm which is larger than the ±1mm typically associated with non-precision measurement.

My favorite measuring tool in the shop
I've always preferred a inside reading rule over a tape measure. Lufkin makes the best and has been over the 40 years that I have been using them.

Classic and Timeless Tool
This Lufkin Metric and English wood ruler was a gift to my Dad on Long Island who lost his 1966 version in the Sandy flood that ravished his neighborhood. His original was 60 years old and still working! If this one lasts half as long, it will be passed from father to son in about 20-30 years.

Close to what I need but....
What I really need is a folding EXTENSION rule with inches and centimeters. But I cannot find anywhere on the internet such a folding rule. The extension feature is really handy to transfer measurements, take depth measurements, etc.

Missed it by that much.
This Lufkin folding rule consists of 13 hinged segments, Emperial measure on one side (0 to 78-3/4") and metric (0 to 2000mm) on the other. This folding rule is not the Lufkin quality of my youth. The first metric segment measures 178mm when compared to a Chappell model #4560M metric SS square; however, the mm markings on the Lufkin rule only show 176mm. The Zero mark on the metric side of the folding rule does not begin at the tip of the rule. Instead, the markings are indented approximately 2mm.When fully extended, the folding rule magically gains the missing mm and measures 2M in length.I do not recommend this rule.

Just what I need
This Is a great product for someone moving to the metric system after too many years of the antiquated Imperial system of weights and measures. While making the change in systems, it's great to have a tool for comparison with what I've known.

Perfect ruler!
This is an awesome handy ruler. I would highly recommend this if you work outside or even indoors. If you get dirt in the cracks, I warn you that it won't collapse into itself or open up as easily.
