Refuel: A 24-Day Eating Plan to Shed Fat, Boost Testosterone, and Pump Up Strength and Stamina Review: "A Doctor's Mission for Men" REFUEL Makes it Easy to Make the Right Choice to Be Healthier - No one likes to admit everything they eat or drink, how much they exercise (or don't) or how little sleep they are really getting or worse-- to be told how to fix it from their spouse -especially men. "No amount of goading will work" according to Dr La Puma on getting men to visit the doctor. Lucky for us and the men in our lives THE Manual for Men's Health has arrived. REFUEL is full of scientific studies, fun facts, "man to man" and "doctor to patient" advice on how to get started and keep going for 24 Days of REFUEL to slim the waist and rekindle the spark in every man's life. Dr La Puma shares proven methods and step by step tips in a friendly and easy to read format from over 15 years of clinical practice and research in weight management and nutritional topics. For those of us who loved Dr John La Puma as ChefMD on lifetime television, read ChefMD's Big Book of Culinary Medicine, and follow his rich presence in the social networks: the recipes are delicious, the advice is honest and from the heart. There are also excellent sections on avoiding toxins, tracking health with the popular wearable technology (ex. Fitbit and Withings) and do it yourself monitoring. Kudos to Dr John La Puma for his obvious passion and excellence in helping men and their families transform their lives with food. Review: Clearly Written and Based On Quality Research - Makes sense and if you follow the clearly laid out plan you will notice a natural testosterone boost and weight loss in short order. I started my dietary education with Robert Lustig (Fat Chance), who provides extensive evidence of the poisonous nature of the modern diet. I then read Loren Cordain (Paleo Diet). LaPuma came next in my reading and his work and Cordain's are very consistent with each other and with Lustig's research. A pure Paleo diet precludes legumes and grains, but LaPuma's doesn't, and Cordain allows to go a certain percentage Paleo. I have never had problems with grains or legumes so I include them in my diet. After seeing Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead and reading the accompanying book (Reboot) I decided to do a juice fast. All of these authors are very consistent with what they have to say about human diet.

Clearly Written and Based On Quality Research

This works and you can do it.
Here are the practical, scientific, dietary and emotional supports for effectively and efficiently implementing your aspiration to live a healthier lifestyle no matter what your age or current conditions are. A quick read, simple ( though not always pleasant) dietary guidelines and graduated physical exercises (done without machines in the privacy of your own space) offer you a way to begin now doing what you know is good for you, self-compassionate and the right thing to do; and the results in 24 days are the proof in the pudding. Worth the effort, for sure.

Keep Chopping
Has great info, but in no way does it just give you info in a no nonsense manner. Lots and lots of fill in words that are worthless then youโll hit few nuggets of useful info. Chopped up lay-out of the book makes for long read for little gain. I would have passed on the book if I had known

Excellent approach to health, lifestyle, and food
Refuel is far and away the best book about food - not dieting - I've ever come across. Dr. La Puma's approach centers on men and what we need to maintain a balanced, healthy, and active lifestyle. He is on a crusade to change the way men eat, the way they exercise, and the way they approach life. Food is obviously part of that, but good food! He has consulted numerous medical research studies and distilled these into a highly readable recommendations. As an active physician treating thousands of patients, he has clear anecdotal data on success. Not everyone is a chef like Dr. La Puma, but he makes practical and delicious recipes seem like a cinch. There is no question following his approach will deliver results. There is nothing faddish or short-term recommended, but it is relatively simple to adopt this holistic approach and retain vigor, youth, and great health throughout your life. It's really a masterpiece in its field.

Just Clever Marketing
The glowing description lead me to believe this is something different - something specially designed for men's metabolism, food men will love because it is the way they eat differently from women, etc. Notice there are no details? Notice the "Look Inside!" does not include the table of contents, but only the author's glowing but detail-free description? Sure enough: eat lots of vegetables, avoid sugar, exercise, cook your own food (it's fun!), etc. Oh, and lots of endocrine/hormone/metabolic chemistry detail. Did I mention lots of recipes? How to make your kale and bok choy taste like a Cowboy Pizza? I am embarrassed to admit that I fell for it. Testosterone aside, this 70 year old male with too much "belly fat" was looking for an easy way out. Turns out I should have just opened my old South Beach Diet book. Nothing new here but the marketing hook. Move along, folks. Kindle edition, $10.65
