How can I turn off the turntable built in speaker? It’s still on even with headphones

There is no built-in speaker. You may be hearing the sound coming from the needle on the vinyl. It is the vibrations and sound being transmitted. This is normal even in the highest quality vinyl players.

Powered speakers required to listen?

It is not necessarily required powered speaker. It can listen direct from the earphone. I use Onkyo Receiver to connect speakers. It works well.

Can you use other headphones with this turntable?

Any headphone that has a 3.5 mm (1/8") headphone jack will be compatible with this turntable.

Does it need speakers?

Yes, it needs speakers or a receiver that you can plug the audio cables into.
