I would advise you to read "The Echo World Trilogy" first (Book 1, which is actually 3 books)
Otherwise you will not be familiar with this World or the characters. I liked that first trilogy. It had romance and the necessary backhistory. This group of books takes one of the supporting characters from the first trilogy and follows her as she finds her place in the changing world. Kat is an immortal in a teenager's body, so the main focus in this boxed set is geared to her emotional, hormonal life as she develops her powers. The suspense is that if she doesn't come through, the universe as she knows it will end.I didn't enjoy Kat as a main character as well as I did Lex from the first series. However, I enjoyed the plot more in this series. Be aware that, although the ending of the last book in this boxed set brought things to a decent stopping point--the story is still not finished. It appears that there are at least 3 more books. I felt satisfied with the ending of the Echo World Trilogy. Not so much with this one...because this ending opens up a whole new situation. Guess I should have quit after that first Trilogy....because now I'll have to continue on in order to find out what happens. Which I believe I will, since this interesting World has hooked me.

Unique Egyptian mythos adds interest
I didn't realize there was an earlier set of stories, "The Echo Trilogy" but I had no trouble with the Egyptian mythos, for which I must thank the delightful Amelia Peabody series from Elizabeth Peters. It was the mythos that kept me interested in finishing all three books. It's a unique take on the supernatural AU that has some really interesting parameters. Unfortunately the heroine Kat and her love interests weren't as enjoyable for me. Nothing wrong with them, but they felt two-dimensional, never really getting developed into fully-fledged personalities. The trilogy wraps up some of the plot but leaves other parts hanging, so it's clear there are future books. I didn't find Kat interesting enough to continue with the series, so I don't think I'll be purchasing more.

There certainly was a lot of action in all three books of this series. After awhile, though, it all seemed to blend together and feel the same-o, same-o. My connection with Kat was tenuous: she was a very determined, tough character but despite her cool exterior she could become quite impulsive.

OMG!
Love the premise, grit and accessible lead player Kat. Tattoo artist/shop owner and total harass fumbling her way through expanding powers, emotional relationships and gods. Not something you deal with every day!

Great read
The writer explains everything at all parts of the books. It takes twists and turns and keeps you guessing but it also has relatable moments. It's a well written sci-fy, if you can call it that.

Love hate relationship
I love the story and avidly read to the finish to find out what happened. But the character of Kat completely did my head in. Maybe I'm too far away from being a teenager to actually understand her character but she just frustrated me and her lack of character growth and the reasons for her actions and decisions completely baffled me. So whilst the story line and premise is awesome I did struggle some places.

Very enjoyable
These books are very enjoyable, using Egyptian mythology and hinting at other worlds. The main character is believable, bolshy and normal, well as normal as gods can be! Written in such a way you can almost see some of the images. Very few pages full of sexual exploits, so don't expect much in that regard! Personally that suited me as I enjoy a good storyline more! The books don't let you see what's coming, nor leave you thinking you'll have to buy another book to get a resolution. They are addictive and you do end up wanting to know more about Kat.

Mystic snark
The basic plot - defeating a wildfire virus - resonated somewhat, and the characters are interesting enough. However, I found myself skipping the mystic conversations and esoteric revelations; so many of them! The ending was a bit too 'And magic saved the day' for me.

Mythical magic
Wow! An awesome heroine who can kick some serious a^$* but struggles with controlling her impulses. Kat Dubois is still learning how to live and how to love with a hefty dose of sarcasm to get through each day. An incredible blending of ancient Egyptian mythos with a well thought out modern world. A bevy of characters who will draw you into a storyline that keeps you enthralled.Get involved and enjoy the ride.

Totally Addictive!
If you love Ancient Egyptian mythology and magic, then you definitely need to read this series! I couldn’t put it down. Great characters, well thought out plot, which combined will make you both laugh and cry. I cannot wait to be absorbed into this world once again.
