Vintage Swimwear: Historical Patterns and Techniques Paperback – February 4, 2014

The book is not very in-depth, doesn't have that many detailed photos of the styles shown in the book. The patterns are also completely useless, those pages could've been used to provide more detailed photos of each piece or include more vintage swimwear! There are also a few grammatical mistakes that should be corrected in next editions.It's still a nice book to have for inspiration but not useful for much else. The author also does a terrible job of describing the swimwear and there are VERY FEW pictures of women and men of the times wearing vintage swimwear. I'm sure I could do a Google search and find more photos than were published in the book. Even Vintage Dancer has more information, images, and historical than the book did.

This is a great resource if you are interested in retro sewing. My daughter has done similar adaptations to current patterns and I wish this had been available then. It comes with patterns to the suits but most of them you will have to upside since they are just on graph paper but not to scale.

Fantastic book with great, clear pictures and patterns you can enlarge. The pictures are awesome and the info on each outfit is also very helpful. This book is really inspiring and I can't wait to start sewing some of these. I would recommend this book to other seamstresses interested in creating vintage swimwear.

It is a cool book, but the instructions for every pattern are not there and you need to know how to draw your own pattern from a 1/4 scale.

Another great reference book from Jill Salen. Wonderful historic research and the photo's are just right.If you do try any of the patterns, I recommend you ensure you have enough fabric to try 3-4 mock up's. In my manufacturing experience it is very important to establish the pattern fit to the specific stretch fabric. Not all stretch fabrics give the same fit, so you will be cutting a pattern for your fabric.

A slim book - but full of large pictures & diagrams of period swimwear. Clear text. I wish there was more of it!

This was a gift and the recipient was delighted. Several designs have already been made.

good range of patterns. simple enough to draft up. would recommend for someone experienced in pattern drafting rather then a beginner
