Fur Real is not exactly For Real, but quite good
Oh, at first glance this cat is amazing. The face, including the eyes, ears, nose and whiskers are extremely lifelike. The thick plush fur helps promote the illusion of reality. The head movements are very natural, and the way his head tilts toward which cheek you pet is very nice. Certain behaviors add to the realism, such as raising his butt when you pet him back there, and getting mad when you mess with his tail. The motor noises are definitely audible but not too bad. The sound effects are pretty good, the purring is natural and the meow is okay but a little too loud. So far I haven't heard too much variety either, just purr, meow, growl, hiss. The growling and hissing is funny but not too effective. *chuckle*Overall Tiger did a great job!But there are several things I was expecting which aren't there... such as "kneading and padding"??? That action is not possible, since there are simply no moving parts other than the neck, butt, and BASE of tail. That's right, the tail is permanently fixed into a static curve, which can be raised and lowered. I expected more mobility. And one early review I read claimed the mouth moves, and mine has a cute mouth (no teeth) I can open with a finger, but it does not open on its own. Perhaps mine is defective, but I doubt it. Heck, I almost expected the eyes to blink, which they don't. Guess furby spoiled me, in more ways than one, because I also expected a little more of a personality. The brief manual says he will behave "much like a real cat by being stubborn and sometimes unpredictable" but he hasn't done anything autonomously other than meow and purr and tilt his head. Time will tell though, I don't want to judge prematurely!I'd recommend this toy to anyone who owns the toy "Scoozie" and likes it. It's a step up on the reality scale. Actually, when I held this and it was purring it was rather soothing. (My real cat didn't think so) But don't buy this expecting that "you won't even know the difference". You will.

Christmas Present
I bought the fur real friend for my niece as a Christmas present. She definately loved it even though it was hard to find. She is three years old and wanted it more than anything. After reading the other reviews, I think people need to remember it is a toy and not the real thing. It's as close to the real thing as we can get so far. I think it was worth it.

Worth the money to see my DOG'S reaction!!
My daughter is 4 -- she hasn't yet received the white plush cat but I know already that she will love it. She has wonderful imagination and loves to "nurture" her animals. When I tried it out to prepare it for Dec.25th, I ended up with weak stomach muscles from laughing so hard over our dog, who was overcome with fierce interest in this cat. I had it on the back of our couch and it looked so lifelike, sitting there, not even doing anything! I've never heard of a Weimaraner dog sitting SO still for so long!Back to the cat-- it was exactly as I expected it to be thus far. Longish plush fur looks nice, the big blue eyes are quite lifelike and the ears are wonderful (my favorite feature). Our cat is lying down and althought the movements are audible it still "performs" as expected. The "meow" is more like a person's meow than an actual cat's voice but that won't be a problem for my 4 year old. Takes 3 "C" batteries and has easy access to the battery area underneath cat. So far, the sensor seems to work just fine and when I move in front of the cat it perks up and moves or meows. Maybe this cat would be more appropriate for the younger children, although the age on the box indicates ages 6 and up. If your child really wants a real cat (as my daughter does), this might be a fun alternative.Too bad I can't include a video clip of our dog's complete and total fascination with this kitty! She was frozen in "point" mode for 10 minutes, occasionally shaking with the urge to Destroy The Kitty!!

My 7 year old loves it!
Santa brought this for my 7 year old daughter and it is her favorite present. The cat comes in a case that when opened carefully can be reused as the "cat carrier". The box will not last a long time though, as the the tabs are made of bendable cardboard. The cat is adorable to look at, moves it's head and tail and meows and purrs. If you lift it by it's tail it hisses and growls. Be aware - it also sheds its white fur. It is not a snuggly cat, the fur is soft, but the insides are mechanical and therefore, hard. It has an on/off button, but it does not turn off automatically as many children's toys do. I am glad that Santa brought this cat - the smiles and giggles are well worth it.

I think it's a waste, & my daughter loved it.....
My 7 year old daughter wanted one of these cats very badly & continually asked for one from "Santa". He came through & spent way too much money on one. There are many good things about this "Fur Real"-It is quite realistic looking, children seem to think it sounds realistic and it really entertained family members for a while. It is a nice substitute for my daughter since I won't let her have a real cat. On the down side-it was quite expensive, it is hard & has very stiff ears. It isn't cuddly at all. The meow is startling, especially when you put in the batteries on Christmas Eve & it almost wakes up 4 sleeping children. It malfunctioned within one day & after checking the batteries it was put aside. It began hissing for no reason & not responding at all. It then made high pitched noises and then quit all together. It is now sitting in the back of my van ready to go back to the store. I was hoping to wait & get a replacement, but now after seeing many more complaints similar to mine, it will be returned for something else. I think that my daughter was thouroughly satisfied and enjoyed her cat. She was in tears when it quit working & was confused when it was hissing at her non-stop. I feel that it was a waste of money and wish that I had gone with my first instinct that it was overpriced & found something else to get for her-Maybe Even A Real Cat Instead!

Just what my daughter wanted
I'm allergic to cats and my daughter has wanted one for so long. So when she saw these she wanted one DESPERATLEY for Christmas, I finally found one by happy accident at a retail store the Friday before Christmas. It was just what she wanted. She couldn't be more thrilled. I personally couldn't understand what all the fuss was about. It is very noisy and just like real cats--it sheds!
