Taos, Wheeler Peak Map (National Geographic Trails Illustrated Map, 730)

This map is described as "Taos, Wheeler Peak", which is somewhat misleading. The map's scale is 1" equals 1 mile, and the area on the map devoted to Wheeler Peak is about 2" by 2". If you're looking for a detailed hiking map of Wheeler Peak, this isn't the map for you.

My husband always takes a paper map as you can’t always rely on a phone signal/battery for the online versions. Nowhere near as detailed as the brilliant OS maps in the UK but still very good. Unfortunately, it was left behind on a peak but on an out and back hike, luckily.

National Geographic holds true to its high standards with this useful map. Although it seems to be biased towards mountain bikers, it is a great map for hikers and probably XC skiers. We used the map to select our hikes in the Taos area and it was ideal for day hiking. Of course we did find some paths that are not on the map, but the major routes are clearly identified. Makes me want to get back to the high country for more time in the forest.

A good map. I'm glad I had it with me on my visit to Taos, because I didn't see anything this detailed available in the area, and it is a lot better than the online maps. Now if they would only put blazes on the hiking trails...

This purchase was for my husband and he said the map was a great guide and easy to use for his backpacking trip to Wheeler Peak. The map is durable and seems water resistant.

Great map, great clarity and details. Can't go wrong. I always purchase NG Trails Illustrated maps for the areas I frequent if they are available. I wish they'd expand into more areas.

Camped in Mt. Wheeler for 3 nights and this map was absolutely useful, good job!!

I love the Trails Illustrated maps. The right level of detail for me. Distances between junctions, basic topo, campgrounds.
