Ideas are wonderful, hard to pick them out of the text
I wish I had purchased the printed version of this book. Sure, I read the review about the awful formatting but did not fully appreciate how much the non-existent formatting would influence my experience. The format of this book has made me dread going back to read it, forced me to re-read text, and is impeding my understanding. There are no visual cues for changes of topics, sections, or thoughts. It's a shame.

Good book if you can make it through the first couple of chapters.
This book is very useful if you can stay engaged long enough to absorb the material. The first couple chapters were pretty dry, but I stuck with it (because I had to) and I've gained a new perspective on working with others.

Only if you must...
I purchased this book for class and after the first inspection I was very pleased. The book is literally PACKED with information. Kirton does a great job of talking not only about the adaptation and innovation theory, but also of many other theories. If you are looking for a book to help you understand how to manage your (or others) creativity this is a great book. I'm specifically coming at it from the science end, so if you are expecting a book that talks about creative marketing, this really isn't the book for you. With all of that positive information there is one terrible downside... THE FORMATTING IS TERRIBLE!! And by terrible I really mean out of this world bad. The text is fairly small and there is very little white space. This book is a good reference for me now, but reading it straight through is a chore. Imagine taking a 500 page word document, make it single space, remove indents, and then drop it to size 10 times. That is this book.Long story short, I'm not terribly mad to have it as a $20 reference book after taking the class, but I'm not sure this is the book I would get if I was just being introduced to A-I theory.

UGH!!!!
If you love psychology topics, this book is for you.Everyone else, be sure to have supplemental information for the theory. The book is structured like a 500 page paper, shrunk to size 10 font, single spaced. No format at all and the few graphics available have no explanation. My main gripe with the book is that its content is all over the place, not well structured, and does not forewarn about the audience it is addressed to. Taking this book for a graduate course wouldn't be an issue if it were the traditional format (the professor would explain in class); for online courses, it's a disaster. The theory requires a LOT of rereading in order to understand it. Some items are starting to make sense, but only because we're not following the order of the book. Therefore, we're connecting the dots in a different way, but I still fail to see the full effect of the theory.I'll put this book in the "archive forever" pile along with the Twilight books and books of courses I don't need any further reference to. That's how much I dislike this book.

Kirton's Approach Make Sense
This was purchased as a text for a course on creativity and problem solving. Kirton's main premise is that we are ALL creative, just in different ways. Worth reading even if you don't have to take a course on problem solving.

Required Reading For Class, Tough Read
Dr. Kirton obviously knows what he's talking about but seems to have a hard time conveying the ideas. He spends time mulling ideas around, enough time to get the reader lost in his chaotic train of thought, and finally sums everything up with a page of bulleted take-aways at the end of each chapter. Much of this book could be more concisely worded, and as it stands, you're better off just reading the bullets at the end of each chapter.
