Aramis by Aramis of Estee Lauder Review by Anthony C. Trimarchi
I’ve been wearing Aramis since I was eleven or twelve years old. I would use some of the original 2 oz splash bottles my father had dating back to the 1980s. We had a relative that once worked for Estee Lauder and he was able to give us many 2 oz sample bottles of various Aramis fragrances back in the 1980s/90s. I recently bought a new spray version directly by Amazon and sold by Amazon (NOT through a thirty party seller through Amazon) because I ran out of the last of my 2 oz bottles and found slash bottles too messy. The scent is still the same and unchanged. I detected nothing different in my new bottle in regards to the fragrance so it is probably still using the original 1966 formula. Although Aramis is a very masculine smelling fragrance for men, so one has to go light with the application (one spray usually will do it) and it’s not a scent for those into the unisex, neutral, ocean/aqua smells, night club group of men fragance wearers. If you’re looking for a more safer or neutral Aramis then go with “Aramias 900” or "Aramis Devin" or even “Aramis Cool Blend” which are lighter versions of Aramis. As for those who say the original Aramis is overbearing or old fashion it’s usually because they’re applying too much (more than one or two sprays). Before the 2000’s when many men's fragrances became reformulated in an attempt to unisex or waterdown many fragrances, it was normal to have a fragrance scream “I am a man!” and this does just that especially being untouched in formulation at the time of this review. This is more of a autumn/winter fragrance but will work nicely in spring too. Age range 20+. Last several hours if applied properly. Aramis original is NOT a unisex or night club fragrance or day at the beach fragrance to once again warn. Picture instead James Bond, Great Gatsby, a successful and confident and leadership type business man about to close the big deal for his company. I give original Aramis 5/5 stars although keep in mind it is masculine, strong in smell, long lasting so apply properly and wisely.

I'm amazed at how my opinion of this fragrance changed
This was a blind buy for me. After reading a lot of reviews on various fragrance sites, I took the plunge. And it was certainly a plunge, because I don't think I realized how long an 8.1 ounce bottle of cologne will last (by the way, buy the spray, not the splash!). I HATED this stuff the first time I wore it. It had this sickening "old man" smell (I know that sounds terrible and mean, but it made me think of my Uncle Gerald whom I'm almost certain wore this 30 years ago), and it was POTENT. Inescapable, and almost vomit-inducing. I decided then and there I could not wear this stuff as-is. I left the top off a couple of nights (again, I bought the splash, not the spray), and I don't know if that aired things out or what, but all of a sudden I'm extremely drawn to this scent. It's not nearly so nuclearly-potent anymore....in fact, it almost seems weak now, so I may have aired it out too much. The smell is sort of similar to original green bottled Polo, except this is smoother, less loud, and I like it more. I am not sure if I am ready to wear it out in public yet, as I'm having a hard time knowing how much to put on (REALLY wish I had not bought the splash, if I have not mentioned that enough times). But I just love wearing this scent around the house, especially before bed. It relaxes me, and metaphorically feels like a warm blanket. My wife complimented me on it, but then again she likes most every fragrance. Definitely a mature man's fragrance...I can't see a teenager or 20-somethings pulling this off. It's SO different than the aquatics and unisex fragrances that are prevalent these days. This sucker is unequivocally masculine. I don't know if the "air out" helped, or if my preference just changed. I NEVER in a million years after that initial wearing thought I would be leaving a positive review for this one, but I am. Wish I was wearing it now, in fact. It's borderline 5-star for me.

Original Classic 1980s Professional Scent
What can I say; I’m a 1980’s guy and finally found the classic Aramis. This, and the original Polo, colognes were my standards. Professional, subtle classic masculine elegance for men. This IS the original classic Aramis I’ve not been able to find in years. What’s with all this tobacco & leather, horse manure, Clint Eastwood spaghetti western wannabe smells guys use now?! Given inflation and knowing back in 1985 this bottle would have been $35-45 at Macys or Nordstrom the price is reasonable. Sorry it’s only available in the spray/mist bottle. Always that that was a waste spraying it through the air.
