Sashiko, the traditional Japanese technique of needlework quilting, uses simple running stitch to create beautifully decorative patterns ideal for patchwork, quilting and embroidery. Sashiko (pronounced shash-ko) means 'stab stitch' And refers to the small running stitch that is worked to build up distinctive decorative patterns, of which there are hundreds. The book begins by exploring the origins of the technique to strengthen clothes and to make them warmer. Getting started describes everything you need to begin stitching, including selecting suitable fabrics and threads, Marking out patterns on the fabric, as well as the stitching technique itself. Ten project chapters show how easy it is to use sashiko patterns to make beautiful items for the home. The sashiko patterns are described in step-by-step detail in the pattern library, showing you exactly how to achieve each individual pattern with ease. Finally a gallery of work by contemporary Japanese textile artists provides extra inspiration. This book is actually really helpful because Susan Briscoe shows you how to do the project in a continuous manner without breaking off the threads. Check her out on youtube first to understand what I mean. BUT - AND THIS IS A BIG BUT - DO NOT waste money on the Kindle version. To understand the order of stitching you need a colour copy of the book. On the kindle reader the colours of the thread DO NOT SHOW UP. So you actually lose at least half the value of the Kindle price. I discovered that the hard way :-( The paper copy of the book is on good glossy paper with good quality coloured photographs. Susan gives a tonne of patterns along with variations on themes! Really great value for money. I have a couple of other Sashiko books for similar prices. This one easily outweighs them!

Livre particulièrement agréable à feuilleter : présentation, description, photographies, explications, visualisation, modèles... à travers ce livre, c'est une belle découverte d'autres techniques de broderie que j'ai découvertes à l'étranger : une envie ? le feuilleter encore et : se mettre à l'ouvrage !!! À conseiller sans retenue aux "curieuses" de la Broderie...

Mi sto appassionando a questa tecnica di ricamo e, nonostante il libro sia in inglese, è davvero bello nelle immagini e nei suggerimenti. Si può tranquillamente tradurre con google translate o altra applicazione. Propone schemi e tecniche da realizzare. Arrivato in perfette condizioni e nei tempi indicati. Molto soddisfatta
