Hope we never have to use!
It is much sturdier than some of the other types offered. I hope to goodness we never have to use it but after a fire in our laundry area (upstairs) from a defective portable vacuum battery exploded at 4 am last year we decided we need to have this just in case. We will keep it upstairs and can use in the front or the back of our house.

Really helpful but bulky
I originally bought this for my 11-year-old son who has had a recent worry about our house catching on fire. It is cumbersome for an 11-year-old to manage on his own because the weight and rings, so I definitely keep this in my bedroom instead of his. I think the angle of his window and where it is above a bay window is very tricky for him, but he was relieved to have this in our house. It’s a lot for one person to manage - to connect to the window sill - but I can see how it’s a vital thing to have in your house. Once it is out of the box an adult can easily use this and it looks like it’s a great fire escape.

This ladder has feet that keep the rungs away form the house.
The rungs being away from the house make it less dangerous and much easier to use. Strong hook keeps it well-anchored on the window sill.

This device is beefy.
The hangers and steps are steel construction. with nylon web stringers. It's heavy in order to be strong and supportive, but still light enough to be maneuverable. If you're hemmed in by a fire, you'll easily find the strength to deploy it. Hook the hangers onto the sill and push the bundle of steps and stringers over the edge. Pop the velcro pulls and all the steps and stringers of the bundle will drop into the proper, deployed position. No matter your weight this thing is NOT going to fail. If you're too heavy for it, it's because you're too heavy to get through the window. It's a winner! Would be great for tree stands and deer blinds too.
