A Dictionary of Moroccan Arabic: Moroccan-English/English-Moroccan (Georgetown Classics in Arabic Languages and Linguistics series)

The number of words in total is limited. There is no scheme of chronology and order of words in the Moroccan to English section, making it difficult to find words.This makes you desperate and to abondon looking for it.

I bought this book in order to teach me to communicate more readily with those that speak moroccan arabic but I find it extremely difficult to use. It doesn't teach you much about pronunciation, so unless you have someone to tell you exactly how to pronounce the words, then don't buy it. There are, however, some definitions which provide useful examples of sentences, so you understand exactly how to use certain words, but if you are looking for more help with sentences and phrases then I suggest a phrasebook. Not worth all the money.

This would be a reasonable dictionary if the Arabic words were arranged in a more logical order. As it is, I find it almost impossible to find words. They have arranged the Arabic words in English alphabetical order (with letters without English equivalents such as ع coming at the end), completely doing away with the Arabic root system used by Hans Wehr and any serious Arabic dictionary. I dread having to look up words in it, knowing how difficult it is to find anything. The English-Arabic section is much easier to use, but I don't need it so often.

Uno strumento molto curato e discretamente completo. Il lessico vira un po' sugli standard settentrionali, ma descrive con grande cura le effettive scelte dei parlanti. Nessun altro prodotto può competere per precisione: il livello è professionale.Alcune rare mancanze: taluni verbi irregolari non riportano le forme più eccentriche, non essendo stato deciso un sistema di paradigmi definito.La parte inglese-darija è ridicola (qualche migliaio di lemmi) - e non si capisce perché.

This book is, as far as I know, the only the book on Moroccan Arabic. It's a good book. However, to get something out of this book, you have to be willing to put the time in. I was very disappointed at first but the more that I worked with the book the more it grew on me.It is a great book, and the only book, on Moroccan Arabic.

I've been a student of Moroccan Arabic for three years. There's not much available that is exclusively for learning Moroccan Arabic, but this book is a great start (if the transcription won't bother you). Personally, I went further and have paired my copy of this book with other resources: a standard English <---> Arabic dictionary and another Moroccan Arabic dictionary (that uses script and is verb-based! yay!) from Artisanal Treasures. I'd say if you're in the beginning stages, this book is best. If you're looking to expand, I'd go the Artisanal Treasures route, provided that you know script. Together, these three resources make a much stronger overall resource for learning Moroccan darija.

Doesn't contain Arabic script-I'm used to reading Arabic-I guess I'll manage
